My server has been workings fine for years, and then when I went to check it today it wasn’t started. I went to try and start it manually and it won’t start up. I downloaded the server file and and tried to run a repair on it, but it still wont work. What is my next step? This is very annoying…
Did you move the Plex data folder away from its default location to a different folder/drive?
If so, verify that this location is still
- existent
- accessible
- has not gotten a different drive letter or folder name
If you have forgotten which drive letter you used, take a look into the windows registry.
The key LocalAppDataPath
in the Plex branch of the registry holds the location, where Plex server is looking for its data.
I found the issue but not sure how to fix yet. My server files were located on my H:/ drive and it looks like That drive has failed, therefore no longer exists. . How to I change it to a different location ? Do I have to delete and re-install? My movie and tv files are fine, on my external drive, but the main server location is gone

That means you’ll have to:
- decide where your server files shall reside from now on
- put this location into the registry
or
remove the key LocalAppDataPath
completely, which causes Plex server to fall back to its default location on the C:
drive.
Either way, you will have to recreate your libraries, almost like a completely new installation.
Yes I did change it not knowing what I was doing! Thank goodness I remember what the drive path was before I changed it!
There should be a warning stating this may lead to system issues if changed.
