Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: Web app from opening via the Plex app.
With the latest upgrade, that I installed after almost 5 days and didn’t see any negatives, I can no longer play shows recorded to my Windows machine, via the antenna. I had zero issues before the upgrade and cannot play a single one since.
I’ve even deleted the DVR and re-added it, no luck.
Nobody else has seen a problem with watching from their DVR? I can directly access the .TS files created, in the OS, and watch them but that’s not what I paid PLEX for, I would have used Kodi if I want to access locally.
@BigWheel, any insight into why the DVR files will not play in Plex?
Note: I added or removed characters for GUIDS, to try and protect sensitive information. The below is from trying to play a recorded show that only blipped on screen and went back to the information screen for it.

Thanks @pl_5309, I have not updated the drivers for a long time however, when I searched for any updates Windows tells me that the ‘best drivers’ for my device are already installed and my ‘Hardware transcoding device’ is set to ‘Auto’.
As for ‘convert video while recording’ that is turned off because I don’t have a need to watch them right away.
Again, all of this was working just fine until a couple of weeks ago when I installed the latest update. I can play the files locally, opening them from the file system, they just don’t play in Plex.
Thanks for the tips @pl_5309, I rolled back to the previous version, 1st attempt was simply to install the old version over the new and when the server started up again I tried to play the DVR files and they played without issue.
So that confirmed that it was an issue with Plex Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314 that they need to fix.
There are many causes that present as the same symptoms so it is more proactive to upload your logs to determine the root cause than hope that a future update will rectify playback.
Plex now bundles the video drivers which may or may not work with your system. They modified the transcoder to transcode to HEVC with settings that need to be turned off if your system doesn’t support this. Soon they will update the underlying FFMPEG which will have a period of instability. Updating to new versions should always be done with caution.
30 years in software says that despite there being many routes to an issue, likely anybody who had the DVR working fine before, but no longer does, suffers from the same base issue.
Having downgraded and the shows that were recorded played without issue points to the software 100% having a bug with playback of files they’ve saved themselves. No other explanation. If they upgraded support of drivers and didn’t add it to any release notes, or give us warning of a need to do something in advance, that is a failing on Plex.
JUST make sure the basic functionality works deliver on what you have promised to people.
After you rollback I would recommend you ‘Optimize Database’ and ‘Clean Bundles’ a couple of times, and maybe at the start of the day for a couple of days.
I had strange behavior and I have optimized db & cleaned bundles in an attempt to make sure that ‘upgrade’ information was not there. So far, so good.
