Unfortunately the search function in htpc-plex is wildly different from android and atv versions. If I search for, example sakes, Avengers or endgame, it will find me anything but the movie on htpc-plex…if I do the same on atv or android client it will find exactly what I need. Could you please port the search function from android to htpc-plex. For me personally its the only thing thats really missing from the application.
Edit: In search settings I had to enable “more ways to watch” and the movies weren’t still on top but they showed up at least after that, also search suggestions came up.
I added a fake title with those words to my library (most of my library is local media) and did a search within Plex HTPC and it picked the title after just after just a few letters entered.
Search picks up all the titles I searched for after trying 20 (most with partial titles typed in).
Edit - I don’t use search much but you are right about it not working right as it only appears to search titles and won’t search for people etc. Doesn’t seem to search metadata at all, just titles ?
Not sure why title search worked for me but not you but that in itself suggests Plex HTPC search is broken.
Edit 2 - as the OP found, turning on Discover fixes the search function it seems. Happy I don’t use search as I hate the Discover function.
