I have a question. I had a NAS fail and the NAS manufacturer sent me a PCIE raid card to recover my data. It had me thinking about instead of buying a new NAS maybe I should build my own. Question is which RAID card should I use? I’m using a Dell T7400 workstation with 16GB RAM and dual Xeon 3.0 processors.
None. For media files you won’t need hardware RAID. Software raid or DrivePool software ought to be sufficient, IMHO.
If you go Linux on that machine, you might be able to use the powerful ZFS, which adds a ton of abilities and way more flexibility than RAID.
Any Linux Distro that plays better with Plex?

It’s USB 3 but I’d have to upgrade to USB 3 in pciE
It’s a jbod. So ZFS should be good.
