Windows to Ubuntu Help

Windows 11 Pro latest version hosting PLEX Server latest version. Media hosted on large External NAS 100 TB+ of mapped drives. Want out of Windows.
Have hardware Identical machine running Ubuntu 26.04.

The challenge is to move a large PLEX installation from Windows complete with watch history, watchlist, multiple libraries and tens of thousands of meta files and data, AS IS, to the Ubuntu platform.

I asked every AI to provide me a 123 of how to. It is a painful process and not one worked flawlessly. I am frustrated. Is there anyone who has tried this? And if so did you succeed and can you provide some help on this?

Have you read up on this support article?

This works great from Windows to Windows or Ubuntu to Ubuntu.

I am trying to move a Windows PLEX Install to a Ubuntu Install. Mountings are very different in Unix than Windows.

Try reading through this thread. Someone just did this about a week ago.

Do you use Sync Watch State and Ratings as that should work and is probably the easiest way to do it.

Alternatively, take a look at this thread → Corrupt Database - Transferring User Information - #74 by anon5074910 (user anon5074910) is my previous account).

Couple of caveats …

  1. this is a more advanced method as your doing direct database exports and imports.
  2. I’d also recommend using the same settings for your libraries between source & target.
  3. your naming of media should really match the plex recommended naming conventions as the watched & history data will need to align after you re-import your media. This alignment is done via plex guids and not folder paths so going from windows → linux is not relevant as long as the libraries structure and media itself is the same.
