WinTV QuadHD (PCI-E) not found Ubuntu Server 20.04

Recently upgraded to Ubuntu Server 20.04. Using PMS 1.19.1.2701 I cannot see or add my WinTV QuadHD PCI-E card under Live TV & DVR setup. I don’t know if it’s an issue is with Hauppauge or Plex.

20.04 was just released 2 days ago.

There will be bugs. Several of us have already found bugs with the OS. It’s the nature of the beast.

This is what happens when adopting too early; getting ahead of the distro and the manufacturer’s support software.

Check with the manufacturer first and verify they support the new driver structure for 20.04

Sounds good, Thank you!

Sorry I posted prematurely. I added the plex user to the “video” group and it appears to be working as expected. I remember having to do that awhile back. Below is what I did in case anyone needs it.
“sudo usermod -a -G video plex” then restart PMS.

Thanks, this helped me out on 19.10

May I ask the Linux device name for the tuner as shown in /dev ?

/dev/dvb/adapter0
/dev/dvb/adapter1
/dev/dvb/adapter2
/dev/dvb/adapter3

I am using 20.04 and added the same card. I did “sudo usermod -a -G video plex” but I am still getting the circle of death from Plex. I did open a new topic before I saw this one. Maybe I should leave the other one open as I appear to be having a different issue.

Version 1.19.3.2764

Ubuntu 20.04 upgraded from 19.04.

I’d gladly take suggestions on how to get the WinTV-quadHD (PCI-E) to be recognized in Plex ion Ubuntu 20.04, please. I just get the circle of death:

@plex_forge_name just a thought, did you restart PMS after adding the group? type id plex to verify plex is now indeed a member of the “video” group.

Absolutely. I even, just for the sake of covering all tracks as best I knew how, restarted the physical machine. I appreciate the response.

I have looked at the syslog files and the logs in /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application\ Support/Plex\ Media\ Server/ .

The PMS log files show nothing when I click on “Set up plex dvr.” It’s like I never clicked the button.

Weird, I’ve had no issues with 20.04 and Plex. I did do a clean install vs. an upgrade, don’t know if that would make a difference for some reason…

Just to clarify: clean install of 20.04?

Correct.

Thank you for posting this! I’ve been trying to solve the same issue with 20.04 with a WinTV QuadHD for three days.

No idea if this is relevant to the issue or if this has been tried. I have a QuadHD with Ubuntu server. I followed the driver instructions on Hauppauge’s support page for Linux drivers and had no issues with Plex recognizing the tuners.

https://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_linux.html

Thought I would pass along in case it helps.
