WMA Codec Support - Audio CD's

Hey:

Hope someone can help on what I thought would be a pretty simple issue.

Setup:  Plex Server setup on an Win7 w/i7-4770k, and two rasplex clients.  All wired feeds.  One has both the MPG2 and VC-1 codecs purchase and installed, the other one does not.

I have a bunch of Audio CD's ripped to a WMA lossless format.  If I try to play, I get an error "Unable to Play Media" and "Play Back Failed" in big red bands.  Both units fail to play WMA

I can stream it to my Win7 computers just fine, but not the Rasplex.  I'm sure there is a codec issue, but I don't see where you can add a WMA codec.

A quick search shows WMA not supported as of about 2012.  IS this still the case?

Can WMA be transcoded on the fly?

What other lossless formats are supported?

DT

transcode them to Flac. WMA lossless is a dead end.

Can you try playing this sample http://www.theflute.co.uk/media/BachCPE_SonataAmin_1.wma which is a WMAV2 file and let me know if it plays. Thanks.

Not a really helpful answer, stick to answering the question, if you don't know the answer then don't respond!

Thanks for the quick reply.  The file you posted played just fine.  Mine do not.  Maybe a rights management issue?

If it turns out to be a DRM issue, OP might end up doing exactly this: converting to Flac.

It is just a pragmatic approach to the problem.

Would prefer to get the WMA working if it’s just something easy like a checkbox in the preferences. I was considering FLAC going forward, but finding and converting all those WMA files sounds like a PITA…

It might just be a matter of finding a tool which can convert all your files in batch mode, while preserving the metadata.

I know the old trusty Winamp and MediaMonkey can do this.

If you're not on Windows anymore, there may be others.

Can you post a short sample of one of your files?

Are these files something you ripped from CD yourself?

No, there are no checkboxes in preferences.

Gets a little more interesting....I can play from the Plex web page on my computer were Plex is running (not surprised by that), and from my Ipad just fine.  I cannot play from the 2 Rasplex's or from an android phone.  Not sure what to make of this...but i don't think its a DRM or a codec issue anymore.

The error message on the Rasplex says to "make  sure the file exists and that the necessary drive is mounted".  Could the code be trying to mount this to play like a virtual CD?

I ripped these years ago into a WHSV1 environment and transfered them to a WHS 2011 box.  have streamed them to all sorts of things over the years.

I'm trying to figure out how to paste files to this site, I cant seem to get it working in either chrome or IE...I'd expect you would like some log files in addition to the WMA file?

DT

Ah technology.

Server Version is 0.9.12.1

Rasplex 0.6.0

Can you PM me a link to a file on something like Dropbox, Onedrive, etc.

Regards

Ned:

I sent 2 PM's one with a .wma file that I can play on select devices, and a couple of log files in a dropbox link.

Please advise if you have trouble or need further info.

Thank you for the assistance.

Thanks will investigate today.

Was there any resolution to this problem? I have the same issue on WMC: Plex Web plays WMA lossless not problem, WMC gives the red bar “unable to locate media” error

Fixed in next release.

Regards

Edit: Didn’t quite get this into 0.7.0, still working on the issue with pausing every 10-15 seconds.

Okay, then I will standby for the next release. Thanks!

FWIW…

0.7.1 plays .wma files but there is a pause every 9-12 seconds. It always pauses at the 12 second mark, then about every 9 seconds. Is there a 0.7.2 pre release I could try?

Good work!! We’re getting there!

Best Regards

That’s the issue that’s fixed. And no, there isn’t.
