PlexAmp Windows transcodes WMA files

Server Version#: 1.41.4.9463
Player Version#: 4.11.5

I have this wma lossless file that’s transcoding into plexamp for windows. Does this app not have ability to play wma or is it just miscategorized as running on a platform that doesn’t? I’m assuming the latter, since I expect few people are using Plexamp on Windows.

ALAC, FLAC, AAC all work fine.

Lossless WMA:

Lossy WMA:

Many people are using Plexamp on Windows.

But very few people are using wma lossless, whose sole reason to exist was Microsoft’s aim to lock you into their eco system. Which didn’t went as they hoped it would, so this file format is becoming more and more obsolete. And that means more and more apps are losing the ability to handle it.

Your best course of action is to convert it to flac.

Thanks Otto!

I think my post was a bit blunt and comes across as confrontational. I didn’t mean to sound complaining but want to help improve the software for everyone.

Converting to FLAC would work. But honestly, it’s not my favorite idea for lossy WMA and it also nullifies one of the reasons I bought Plex in the first place. I also kinda like WMA, for what it’s worth. :joy:

Do you think a Plex employee will see this and try to fix the bug?

Wasn’t this thread about lossless WMA?

Of course, you are right, when it comes to lossy WMA files. To
convert those to anything is rather a poor idea.
Honestly though, this format won’t have a future. So re-rip those CDs while they’re still readable, I’d say.
