I have thousands of music files on my PLEX NAS Server. They are stored as either WMA Lossless or FLAC files. I’ve have been able to play all of them using any PLEX client. Today I discovered that the WMA Lossless files will no longer generate sound when I play them on my three Sony Android TVs. The FLAC files still play fine.
Has the Android TV Plex client dropped support for WMA files? I can still play them on a PC client just fine.
Same problem here: no WMA music plays on my Sony Bravia XBR-55A8G. My music is almost 100% variable bit rate (240-355Kbps).
Probably these are not needed but just in case:
Server: Windows 10 Pro, Plex v.1.18.4.2171
Client: Sony BRAVIA XBR-55A8G BRAVIA_ATV3_4K_UC-USER 8.0.0 OPR2.170623.027.S25
Plex app: v.7.26.0.14578
There is a fix produced for this, which has now begun its way through the release pipeline.
Meaning, I cannot tell you exactly when it will be fixed, but it will be eventually.
I see that there has been an update of the app on 1/21/2020. Same issue. I hope that 7.28 will fix this issue but when is it supposed to be released? Basically, I cannot listen to my music in the living room: the google app is so slow, the experience with my receiver is also horrible… Please, hurry up, because right now I’m paying for nothing.
Well, I’m not sure if I’ve installed v7.28, but I’ve very recently installed an update for my PLEX server on a Netgear ReadyNAS 628x. I’ve also very recently installed a nVidia Shield TV update. My WMA Lossless files still won’t play. I’ve seen no PLEX client updates for the Sony android TVs nor for the nVidia Shield TV device. This playback problem of WMA files has been broken a long time!
I have a question then. Is v7.28 a PLEX server or a PLEX client update? When I open the PLEX client on either Sony android TVs or on the nVidia Shield TV, I can find no way to even check for a client update. It’s not in settings. I’ve searched everywhere. There seems to be frequent automatic updates to the PC client, but I never get notifications about other client updates.
7.28 is the client update for Android clients.
They will update themselves, when the Google app store decides it is time for you.
(They don’t roll out updates globally to all devices at the same time. They always go in waves.)
