So, last night I was messing around with this old laptop that I have, trying to get WMC to work smoothly in Windows 7. Ideally, I wanted to setup this laptop as a bedroom HTPC, but its specs are a bit old, and WMC is a bit bloated, so the results were less than desirable (even when running the whole thing in a 6GB RAMdisk). Plex was working pretty well; but still, I was really missing some good Live TV functionality.
A shot in the dark that I hadn't tried in years; I decided to install XBMC and see what could be done with Live TV these days. After about 15-20 minutes of looking and reading, I finally install PVR.WMC and put ServerWMC on my Win8.1 WMC/Plex Server. BOOM!! Instant gratification. The results are absolutely STUNNING too on this old C2D. Next, I plan on popping PleXBMC on there and this machine is all set as a backup for the bedroom.
NOW! If only we could have something this magical integrated into PHT, I would seriously be the happiest man alive!!
This is not gonna happen anytime soon as dev's have indicated in the PlexHT Live TV request.
Best you could do is to go to Feature Request Forum and vote-up Live TV request.
If you want LiveTV more than you want Plex, then look at Media Browser with ServeWMC. I've been running it for past few weeks and its stable enough but for now only WebClient has Live TV. Other clients should come soon-ish. Though please be aware that Media Browser is few years behind Plex in terms Server development part and it does show at the moment.
So no, you cant have cake and eat it too :-)

Already voted! :) Thanks for the reply.
I've heard this before, that Plex devs are not in a rush to deliver Live TV. I guess my hopes are to simply spark some awareness that the interest is there and the general idea behind a similar product is a decent template to consider. Nevertheless, I am more than pleased to see all the great things that have been coming out of the Plex devs this past year. Totally worth every cent of my Lifetime PlexPass! Keep up the good work devs!
