It’ll make for a decent Plex client, but not a server IMHO.
I will, slightly, disagree with Otto. I think it would make an adequate server if the following apply:
- Most or all of your media is in a format to direct play
- You never want to stream two or more transcoded 1080p streams
- You do not want to play even one transcoded stream that is 4k
- your total number of direct play streams will not exceed 5 or 6 at the same time.
- The server will have NO other regular tasks.
If all of those are met then it could be a decent server.
Note: During library creation there will be a good bit of overhead so the above criteria will be even tighter. I would not judge performance until after the libraries are created and stable.
Thanks. I think the processor might too low for my needs. My current server is a tower with a Xeon processor and this unit would be a step down.
But I’m shopping around for a more energy efficient rig.
Maybe this instead older PMS with newer clients?
