Getting this error on Xbox Series X latest version in alpha that allows audio passthrough
Some 3840x2160 videos being transcoded to 1080p because, “Video stream exceeded coded resolution of 3840x2160”
Server Version#:
Player Version#:
Seeing that the bitrate is being reduced from 37.3Mbps to 14 MBps, I would have to guess that your local playback quality is set to 20 Mbps. Change it to original.
I think H.264 is (also) a problem. I don’t believe the Xbox Series X supports H.264 for 4K or at Level 5.1.
(Googling now for better evidence one way or another.)
Oh I missed that. You are correct. The app does not support 4k h264.
However, that should have resulted in a 1080p h264 file with the same bitrate, so something else is also going on.
I wonder if this is what’s going on for that video:
3840x2160 is the consumer 4K resolution. It’s 100% normal and expected that 3840x2160 HEVC media is coded as 3840x2176 because of codec implementation details.
Moussa’s comment on the other thread is that the Xbox decoder is crabby.
This seems like a gigantic
to me, but … I don’t have a Series X ![]()
At least i can watch via TV for now, shame the Series X is a beast, and now with audio pass-through I thought it would be perfect!
Thanks for the info everyone!
