Xbox series S/X compatibility

So Plex does not work the greatest on the current generation of Xbox. Is Plex going to be snappier with more compatibility and less transcoding especially for live TV on the new series X & S? When comparing the current Xbox to Nvidia Shield there’s a major difference.

I don’t have any issues with it at all on my Xbox on X and it so far also works perfectly fine on my series X

Thanks for the response, biggest issue I have is live TV buffering on the one x.

Ahh don’t use Live TV show not sure on that one, is it a HD homerun if so try the official app on xbox and see if it still dose it there

Yeah it works perfect in there. That’s my only complaint, once that’s fixed it’ll all be great.

Yeah Plex and 4K files don’t mix well on the new series X(Just did some testing) and neither did the Xbox one X. I really wish they would fix it since I’d much rather use the Xbox than my Nvidia shield. I don’t see why there is such an issue with the horse power that the new Xbox has. I really hope they fix this soon… I’m tired of having to use a separate device just for Plex to be stable… I really have no use for the shield other than plex.

Yeah I just tested the Series X with 4k it has no problems direct playing the video portion x265 x264 & HVEC. However the audio won’t pass thru anything other than AC3 or DTS everything else gets transcoded to AAC (for some reason according to the logs) and that causes nothing but buffering issues during playback. Just thought I’d chime in and help people out. Obviously there is no reason why the Series X shouldn’t be able to direct play these types of audio as it clearly supports them.

Hopefully an update will allow in the future.

Yeah it does work better on AC3 audio for sure however, it still buffers occasionally which it really shouldn’t be doing. I don’t run into these issues with nvidia. Kinda makes it unwatchable, as you are always wondering when the movie will be interrupted. I dunno, I’m still stuck with the shield for now. Thanks for your response Sir, appreciate it.

Same issues here with 4K files. I get a lot of stuttering before it starts to buffer on my Series X. PS5 is worse any 4K file crashes the Plex app completely and sends a crash report to Sony. I’ve tried everything I can think of on my end but no luck. Hope this gets sorted soon.

Just as with Xbox One Plex, Plex for Series X drops subtitles and buffers for me (on every xbox in the house). I was really hoping the Series X would fix the problems. Hard of hearing so I depend on the subs. I have a new computer built by my son-in-law (A senior computer engineer) to be a Plex powerhouse server. All other local and remote clients (android, smart tv, ios, etc…etc.) play perfectly.

PLEASE PLEX; FIX THE XBOX CLIENT

I have seen silence on the issues with the xbox app issues. Multiple playback issues that can be replicated but no response. Hopefully a fix in the works.

Buffering issues have gotten slightly better for me, but I’ve found that I can’t resume videos on Xbox. It doesn’t matter what the video is, it just buffers endlessly and then errors out. Really wish this would get fixed. I have to switch to Emby just to resume videos that I’ve partially watched. Not exactly an ideal solution.
