Xmltv plex not distinguishing separate episodes - showing same description for all of them

I have an XMLTV guide that has four Magnum PI episodes in a sequence (episode 11-14):

There’s no <episode-num/>, the episode details are in the description.
Plex EPG shows all of them, but: for all of them it shows the description for “episode 12”, which is the one currently playing of the four episodes (at time of writing: 18:00).

To be sure, not only is this a cosmetic issue, the result is that I can not record these separate episodes.

Maybe the issue is that they are seen as “movie” (where items with same title as seen as the same item) instead of “tv show”?

For this show the season & episode details are in the description, not in an episode field.

If it does not have any episode information, it is a movie for plex. And then it won’t record four versions of the same “movie”. The latter works as expected.
You should try to get an xml file with valid episode information, otherwise you won’t get lucky in the future I am afraid.

I can understand it is treated as a “movie” when storing & displaying the recorded programme as Plex does not know the season+episode details.

But I still think it is a bug because the same applies for two versions of the same movie are in the EPG (e.g. the original and the dubbed version, or the PG and R versions).

  1. if the descriptions are different then I expect that the different descriptions are shown
  2. if I decide to record a specific version/transmission, then I want that specific one to be recorded (not: “the first programme with that title”)

If the standard version of a movie is aired on different channels, it will have a different run time (ads) and probably a different description. How should you detect whether it is the same or a different version? Most people don’t want to record several airings of the same movie but merely one. That is why Plex skips the movie if it was already recorded, probably simply based on the title.

That’s why I say: “decide to record a specific version/transmission”.

So, if the default Plex recording behaviour is “the first programme with that title”,
then give the user the option to record a specific transmission instead.

In certain cases it is useful to treat all programmes with the same title as the same programme. In other cases it is not useful or even not correct.
