xTeVe - IPTV for Plex DVR

Yes, I do and Yes, I am. I got the issue to go away by running xTeVe as root. xTeVe says not to do this, but its the only way I could get it to buffer.

I’m not sure if this has been posted yet or not but when I updated Xteve and I disable the buffer it removes my tuner so it will not work through Plex I have to have the buffer enabled to get the tuners back. but I dont really want to use a buffer

Cheers

Can this work on Nvidia shield?

So far it’s useless. Can’t get it to do anything :man_shrugging:

No, you need a ā€œrealā€ computer to run it.

This sounds like the buffer folder needs the permissions/ownership changed to the username of which xteve was running.
chmod username:username /the/folder/path -R
Should be enough assuming you use the correct username and foler path and xteve is running under the same username

You can rent a computer. You might be able to find one to do the trick for 6-10$/month. Something like A VPS or ā€œcloudā€ instance.

Nothing you do in xteve should ā€œremoveā€ Plex’s tuner. Maybe it doesn’t work after the change but the only way for the tuner to be ā€œremovedā€ is for it to be removed from plex manually.

If my Provider gives 1 connection. Can I use Buffering to play the image on 2 devices?

I installed the multimedia add-on for Qnap, including VLC. I thought maybe VLC would be the best for buffering channels:

Unfortunately, after adding the VLC track, when playing TV I have an error:

Anyone encountes issues on livetv via SmartTV (Samsung/LG)? xTeVe and DVR ar working fine in the Plex Web-UI. but on Plex TV apps the stream does not start and the whole app freezes. xTeVe log shows nothing, not a single request.
I testes with xTeVe buffer and also FFMPEG buffer.
Maybe you habe an idea.

As long as it is properly set up, plex will use the same source stream for multiple users.

I have had good luck with ffmpeg including customizing the command to improve several aspects which include device compatibility where plex seems to fall short and force everything to 720 to conserve on bandwidth and improve on running out of buffer. Maybe give this a try instead…

For anyone who is interested, just now I realized that streams below the 720 res will fail when hardcoding a rescale to 720 so I have learned that ffmpeg can accommodate with the following command line parameter;
-vf scale=w=960:h=720:force_original_aspect_ratio=decrease

This way it will still work as intended but allow SD streams to work, otherwise they will fail.

I have a problem. The tv program loads several times during broadcast. Just like he would replay three times and then move the picture away. Is there a magical setting for ffmpeg to be buffered and not reloaded?

@marmei would it be possible to have in the settings to allow connecting to a Locast.org account? There is currently an Emby add-on that allows you to use your Locast credentials to view the tv streams. Thanks!

I’ve not been able to find discussion to the contrary, but, Locast is not an IPTV provider.
They are a streaming video provider of local OTA networks. (Different type of signal over internet)
Much like any other streaming provider that xTeVe can’t pick up (Sling, Dish, …)

While I believe the appropriate classification is OTT for sling and Locast my point is there is an emby addon that is successful in redirecting the streams into an interface. From what I’ve seen each channel ends up with its own link, technically 3 due to it offering different qualities. Here is an old link and Locast has since changed how they serve up the streams I believe it would be possible to work something out and I would definitely try myself, but I’m not that talented.

I’m sorry, but I can’t implement every provider interface. M3U playlists is the only way, maybe someone has already developed a tool to generate an M3U from it.

Prior to Plex discontinuing plug-ins, there may have been an easier way.
However, most of the format streaming Plex could once support through plugin are now discontinued.
That being said, perhaps you could email the author of Locast2Plex to inquire about feeding the stream to xTeVe rather than the telly docker mentioned in his project.

@marmei I understand and I appreciate you getting back in touch so quickly.

@JamminR thanks for the lead on that locast2plex. I’ll definitely look into that and who knows I might even be able to modify it to make it work. Also I was wrong the addon I was speaking of was for Kodi not emby. Again thanks all for the feedback I appreciate it!
