Again, and for the last time, I’ve asked and not gotten a definitive answer about what’s happening or going to happen with it.
My most recent conversation with the product team was 30-Apr-2018 and focused on this thread.
Product announcements must be made by the product team.
I can only tell you what I, were I not an employee, would do. I am not authorized to make any official product statements.

“Knowing the Xbox is its own separate build (reference Microsoft architecture table), will a single X86 build only (no ARM) suffice for all other platforms”
Yes absolutely.
Do I have concurrence from everyone here?
If you don’t want to support ARM devices (which don’t just include Windows Phone), then go ahead. If that’s the case, Plex should formally announce that they will no longer be supporting Windows Phone, or any Windows 10 on ARM device.
I wouldn’t expect any more of a response from management than you’ve had previously.
Can I get a definitive answer?
I can’t decide which is worse:
My not understanding why there is nothing official said
Why, in spite my best efforts to find SOME small way to make a step forward for you all that I can advocate directly with the developer, I get no definitive agreement.
I’ve said go ahead. Perhaps others haven’t seen your message or have already jumped ship.
Ultimately, it’s a business decision for Plex.
There are multiple participants here.
I will wait until I get a majority. I am doing this because I need justification for him… He will need that same justification to divert his time. (the ‘charge number’ thing).
I can tell you now, If we do pull this off, the usage numbers which Plex management sees need to support / justify the effort expended. If they don’t, whatever we have accomplished is done forever with no looking back.
Sorry to say it but, it will be 'sink or swim" . (there’s another one about sitting on a pot? haha)
@ChuckPA If you want others to respond, perhaps it would be better to post this as a poll in the forum, with an appropriate title.
@missionsparta
Since you and @foxprorawks seem primary here, I’ll leave this user-driven effort to you.
I must let this progress as a grass-roots effort. Once it hits the mark I need then i can take over.
Should you guys opt to do it, I would make sure to ask:
- X86?
- ARM?
- Don’t care (I have both) so I’ll use either/or
- I’ve moved on / don’t care what is decided.
OK, so are you happy with the following wording:
Title: The Future of the Plex Client on Windows 10
If you could only choose one, which of the following Plex Windows Store (UWP) Client applications would you prefer?
- X86 (Most desktop PCs and laptops)
- ARM (Windows Phone, and the new generation of Snapdragon based Always Connected PCs.
- Don’t care (I have both) so I’ll use either/or
- I’ve moved on / don’t care what is decided.
I’m happy with it if you are. It’s your poll
It’s up to you if you wish to make the results public or not but I think public results will also allow those who want it to know they need speak up and be heard.

I am okay with fox’s wording.
Also Chuck, if you have 2 minutes, you should watch this video from Microsoft: https://channel9.msdn.com/Blogs/One-Dev-Minute/Introduction-to-UWP-and-Device-Families?ocid=player
One of the challenges that I have seen is there seems to be some confusion about what a UWP is on Windows 10. Basically, it means you have one code base that works on ALL architectures (ARM, x86_x64, etc). It is hardware agnostic. Visual Studio auto-builds all the binaries for all platforms, packages them up and puts them on the Windows Store. Little/no extra work from the developer. (This is also a good resource: What's a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app? - UWP applications | Microsoft Learn)
So when you go to the Xbox app dev team, if possible, I’d like you to ask them this question:
“Is the Xbox app a UWP app? And if so, what is preventing you from targeting the ‘Windows.Desktop’ device family, in addition to the ‘Windows.Xbox’ family you currently target?”

I mean, the forum has less traffic than it used to because of lack of Plex engagement, and you only posted it 2 hours ago.
Saw you posted on the Plex Reddit as well so that hopefully gets some traffic too. Plus, elan posts on Reddit occasionally

My question to everyone here is simple:
Given the multitude of facets encompassing the “UWP Platform” fleet, which includes various devices on numerous processor types,
I ask the participants of this thread to define a prioritized list of what comes first.
The overwhelming glob of stuff called “UWP” is divisible and conquerable. It must be done in pieces/stages. This is how it can and will be resolved if it’s going to be resolved at all.
Think me harsh if you will, but at the first statement saying Everything is first priority, or first rant of any kind whatsoever, the discussion will be ended.
In my opinion, the biggest thing that needs to be fixed is that the app needs to actually be able to play content back properly. There is video stuttering in almost everything I playback. If the app can’t playback video, ifs worthless. It’s a shame too because plexweb has become unusable with touch controls, which also means I can’t use pmp for my normal usage on my laptop.
That said, sorry for others ranting, but for an app that cost five dollars even with already owning a Plex pass that has lots of issues and hasn’t been updated in what, over a year now, I get the frustration.
That said, thank you for at least looking into it for us.
Seems conclusive so far. A question - does the XBox app allow syncing?
No. It doesn’t. It wouldn’t have a need to. Could be added though if it was brought into a full UWP app
I would also like to point out that my reddit thread is currently at +55 votes on the Plex subreddit.

That’s what I’m thinking, if it was running on a laptop etc.
