Hi,
I first tried out Plex by buying a WD my cloud home, (worse mistake, won’t let me back up to usb, causes problems with internet, can’t add catagories, the list goes on)
But it was alway my plan to buy a NAS if I liked Plex, I do
But it’s a bit of hard work trying to find out what systems etc to buy, I’m not too techie and would prefer an all in one system, which got me thinking about my PC, I don’t use it much and I can leave it on all the time.
I’ve looked at what specs are needed, but really my mum has a roku box and I want this to transcode without it buffering etc for her, at the moment it’s a nightmare with the my cloud.
Can anyone let me know if the system below will work. (and what kind of hard drives should i get for plex stuff only?)
amd ryzen 7 1700x 3.4ghz
installed 32gb memory
windows 10 pro
nvidia geforce rtx 2060
That system should run Plex no problems, hard drives , depends how much media you have and want to have. I’ve approx 1000 films @ 1080p takes up close to 2tb . WD Red 3tb drive.
Got a couple of other drives in there for TV and music.
I also have an 8tb external drive that backs up movie and music folders.
Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
I’ve mostly got SD films on it, knowing the my cloud wasn’t great any BluRays I converted to SD.
I had heard about the WD red before, would you suggest I connect that directly inside the PC? or will a usb outside be ok?
Thanks once again, will download Plex server now
I’ve got 2 x ssd’s and 2 x HDD fitted internally in mine.
My system is a bit old now based on the FX8350 but still seems to manage what I want, seen 3 devises connected at once and they all play OK steaming to
PS4’s , LG ,Samsung and Sony TV’s , ipads.
The only issue I have is playing anything higher than 1080p @ 8mbits, I do get buffering, but on the playback devices I use not an issue to go any higher
