I have an idea for a new YouTube plugin, which i thought I’d run past you guys. I haven’t made a plex plugin before, but in terms of learning a new language/API there’s nothing like trying to write something you yourself would find useful!
On Youtube i usually watch full episodes of things. Currently I’m watching Crystal Maze and some anime serieses. The full episodes are all on Youtube, split into multiple parts per episode, but named with a consistent naming scheme. The downsides of the current plugin are:
- having to enqueue each part of each episode manually
- after watching one episode, having to reenter the entire search term again
- no keeping track of which episodes have been watched
I’m considering a plugin that lets the user add a series to the list, by entering a youtube video name with wildcards for season/episode/part numbers. After that, it should allow browsing in an interface similar to the tv episode section of plex. Select an episode and it enqueues (in order) all the multiple parts of that episode that are on YouTube.
