Plex Connect no servers discovered

I can't seem to get plexconnect to find it's servers. I managed to get my atv3 to recognize Plexconnect but whenever I click on the trailers app, it says "no Plex Media Server in proximity" and it shows when I run plexconnect.py also. I have attached a copy of my log. Thank you for all your help guys. I'm new to plexconnect and ATV.

Im running a Windows 7

Try hard coding your PMS fallback IP in settings.cfg (see wiki advanced settings for details).

I've seen this same issue on my machine. Not sure why. I started and stopping the script a few times and it finally auto-detected.

W2k8R2 box here - probably same behavior as win7

I changed the setting.cfg file alot and I still can’t seem to find a server

Do you think the “14:40:56 WebServer: WebServer: Serving HTTP on 0.0.0.0 port 80” may have something do do with it?

My Local IP is 192.168.2.10

My Router IP is 192.168.2.1

It doesn’t matter if GDM does not find your PMS if you edited settings.cfg correctly.

I think I found the issue - a firewall setting was blocking something, but I'm not sure what port, as I opened up port 32400 and port 8090 (the port I'm running PlexConnect on). Are there any other ports used by Plex or PlexConnect that I'm missing?

From a little Google-Fu:

"open 32400 (tcp), 32410 (udp), 32412 (udp), & 32414 (udp). Plex uses it's own protocol now called GDM (G'day Mate). I've opened these ports & my windows clients now recognize the server"

Hm. I tried opening those, and when I reenable pf the Trailers app says "no response from plex media server". If I disable pf on my system it works. So obviously I'm missing a port somewhere, but not sure which one.

Have you got 53 and 80 open?

Have you got 53 and 80 open?

I do, though I'm running PlexConnect on port 8090. Other than those, the other ports I currently have open for Plex are 32400 (tcp), and 32410,32412 & 32414 (UDP), plus port 8090 for PlexConnect.

I just forwarded ports 32400(tcp), 32410,32412,32414 (udp), and port 80. My server is still not being found and I changed my DNS on my setting.sfg to reflect that of the router IP 192.168.2.1. Is there anything I'm missing here because I still can't seem to find the server and so my trailers app says there is no plexconnect in it's proximity.

Please read the sticky on how to report a problem.
Wen eed more info and you need to increase the logging level.

Turn off firewall. Once you get it to work you can enable it again and fiddle with ports. DNS on your ATV should point to the IP of the machine running PlexConnect, not your router.

Since PMS discovery fails you need to supply IP of the machine running PMS manually so that PlexConnect knows where your data is. This might not be needed if you turn firewall off - look at that log you posted above it should say PMS discovered or something like that.

Hi all

Still struggling with the above issue on my Windows7 machine.

And config:

[PlexConnect]
port_pms = 32400enable_plexgdm = True
ip_dnsmaster = 192.168.1.1
ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
loglevel = Normal
enable_dnsserver = True
logpath = .
ip_pms = 192.168.1.12port_webserver = 80
port_webserver = 80
enable_plexgdm = True

Have already tried a few changes in settings.cfg, but no luck.

Also tried to turn off firewall, but no difference.

What am I missing, can anyone help? Please? :)

Thanks

Dom

You are missing carriage returns:

port_pms = 32400enable_plexgdm = True

ip_pms = 192.168.1.12port_webserver = 80

Should read:

port_pms = 32400

enable_plexgdm = True

ip_pms = 192.168.1.12

port_webserver = 80

Hey f00b4r

Thanks for pointing this out, have changed file accordingly, but hasn't made any difference.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

You have an PMS running, right?

If you want the setting ip_pms to have any effect, you need to set "enable_plexgdm = False".

Excuse my absolute embarrassing noobishness and many thanks for your help!

No, I didn't have the PMS running...

Problem solved! Everything works just fine! Great job guys, thanks for this awesome media centre!

I have been running Plexconnect on my iMac successfully for several months. I got a new Mac Mini and installed Plexconnect on it but it doesn't work. When I run the file the prompt stops at Webserver - the Plex GDM prompt doesn't show up. Has anyone come across this? I am having same issue with my MacBook Air.

This is all I can get up to. My PMS is running fine as I can access it from other computers on the network.

Please start a fresh thread with all the info requested in the sticky and we will get you up and running.

Also make sure you copy across the cert files from your iMac PlexConnect folder that match the ones on your ATV profile.
