I've been casting from Chrome on a PC to Chromecast with no issues for several months. I am now getting the error 'Unable To Cast, This media is currently unavailable" just after picking the media to play in the browser. I've tried rebooting, reinstalling the server, etc in an attempt reset what appears to be some kind of PC issue. Chrome may have been updated just before the issue started, but I'm not sure. I also can't find any setting that might be an issue.
Everything else works; I can cast from the plex server on the pc to the Chromecast using my phone app to initiate. My dnla TV works with plex, The plex web player works fine. The issue is only occurring when casting using the web page. My PC is also dual boot win 7 and win 8. The win 8 side works without issue.
Here are some logs;

Seems I found a solution; I uninstalled the server and also deleted the Plex Server folder under appdata, then reinstalled. Casting from the browser is now working.
I had a similar problem. I couldn't cast all movies I had on PC using Plex. I thought it was a problem with Chromecast but I could cast all videos in internet without problem. So I tried to do something in Plex. I changed the IP: 127.0.0.1 with my IP in the URL bar, for example: From http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.htmlto http://192.168.1.8:32400/web/index.html and it works. I would like to know how I can solve it without change every time the IP address in the URL bar.
I spoke too soon..I started getting the same issue again but tried your suggestion of using the actual IP in the browser and it worked. I would like to know what the problem is here.
I was having the same problem all the same. what it was for me was after update I was logout some how. In setting under sever and connect menu I log back in and works again.

This worked for me as well. Previously a link with the machine name was fine but as soon as I changed to the actual IP, worked without any other fixes.

Somebody buy this man a beer (or twenty)!
I can confirm that this works as a proper workaround. So until Plex fixes this issue, I have bookmarked the 192.168 address, and this solves the problem.
I am getting pretty tired of Plex + chromecast going down every month or so though!
(Also for the benefit of others - things that did NOT work for me:

God dam this worked, the server suddenly stopped streaming to cromecast.
I got error: you`re server is to week (8 core atom processor on server so transcoding is done in cpu) but after i plotted in the ip,
the movies are playing as they did before without the error.
I have been using PMS for months on localhost with only minor issues (more around library maintenance and .bundle files) then suddenly yesterday I couldn't cast anything. I kept receiving the message "Media currently unavailable". I have no idea why this started happening but I could cast via other extensions/apps so I knew it wasn't my Chromecast device. I tried restarting my PC/Router/Chromecast device, uninstalling/reinstalling the PMS software, clearing all cache, etc. but nothing worked.
I tried this method of using the IP address of my machine and it works (for now). I still can't stream via the Plex Web interface though. That also gives "Media currently unavailable" so not sure what's going on there.
This is a great piece of software when it works. Robust and feature rich with a slick interface, library customization and great metadata support. I hope they resolve the ongoing issues. If not there are alternatives.
I too was having an issue connecting my iPhone 6 to plex-server via chromecast. It would state, "An unknown error occurred, unable to connect." So I went into my wifi ap and disabled the 5ghz (n-only) radio, so now only running 2.4ghz (n-only). Still, the problem occurred. Alright, so, I use pFsense as my router/firewall and I have static mappings for all of my devices on the home-lan (I really don't know if that does anything or not); however, the DNS Resolver was set to assign host names to all devices on the home-lan. Well, any chromecast, iPhone, Android and so forth device has a funky default host name, I changed them all so I would know which one I am dealing with as I have 5 iPhones, 3 droid tabs and 2 chromecasts on the LAN. What I discovered is, apparently, chromecast and/or plex does not like this. Once I disabled LAN network ip name resolution - the problem has since gone away. Everything works just as it did before.
Just curious, are you guys using the PLEX Web App from Comcast? - I have a problem with that, the Google Cast will not appear,I have to use either of these methods:
Hosted from the plex.tv website
Locally through your Plex Media Server
also had this problem, filling in the ip adres solved it indeed, but filling in ‘localhost:32400/web/…’ has the same issue as the normal 127…
Seems like this still isn’t fixed
Hate to bump an old thread but is someone working on this because if the plex server is addressed with a network name(because IPs change and most routers are a bitch to assign statics or the server is or both) this is still a problem.
