This is quite a difficult issue to explain, but this weekend I was using Plex to catch up on a few box sets of shows which I have been meaning to watch for a while, and I had some troubles with navigating between shows on my PS3.
When the app first loads it is nice and responsive, but after watching each show (~45 mins playback each) the interface seemed to get slower and slower each time. An example of this is after about the 3rd or 4th show as it ended playing the episode details screen took over 15 seconds to finish loading all of the info about that show (background image and video/audio quality logos seem to be the last things to load) and while waiting for this the interface was completely unresponsive. I think this is progressively slower with each episode I watched and my patience ran out after watching 4 shows each time.
To be clear this is not the playstation itself becoming slower; pressing the PS3 button responded immediately and I was able to close the Plex app. Reloading mean the app was responsive again.
This issue only seems to have appeared as of the latest (2.4.19) release.
For background, my PS3 is connected via WiFi to my network, my PMS is 0.9.12.11 running on Windows Server 2012 R2 on an HP MicroServer Gen8.
If you need any further details please let me know, but testing this further may need me to wait for the weekend when i have time to watch 4 episodes of a show back to back
Hi @DavidIrwin we’ve pushed a new PS3 and PS4 update (2.4.21). You only need to restart the app to get the latest.
We found that the PS3 and PS4 handle the posters and background artwork from PMS differently from other clients. These devices wind up requesting each piece of art two times. I changed our code to avoid this situation, watch most of a couple movies, a TV episodes, a trailer and navigated w/o the app going into sloth mode.
Please let me know if you see an improvement (or not).
@mattseeley I’ve been through 4 TV episodes and still seeing the slowness unfortunately. Definitely seeing the results of the image load change. Now while I’m waiting there are no pictures on screen, only text!
Ditto, after surfing plex on the PS3, not watching movies JUST surfing the delay gets to the point I just turn it off. Not worth the trouble. Hard wired, 1G connection, windows 10

I’ve made some headway on this issue but still haven’t isolated the cause. Sorry for the delay, please know that turning around the performance behavior is high on my priority list!
Thank you for looking at this issue as a priority. I will leave this thread as un-answered (problem still outstanding) but if you need any testing, logs, or other information from me/us please ask
Matt,
I had some thoughts on this - in previous discussion you mentioned the channels were pulled from the PS3 release due to the PS3 becoming unresponsive when trying to use them - could this be similar symptoms to what were described? (not sure if that is a helpful comment or not).
The odd thing is that the PS controls are responsive when this happens (pressing the PS button on the remote immediately brings up the “Quit” menu even while waiting for the Plex client to respond.
As before if there is any testing, log capture or other information which could be helpful please let me know.
In the mean time I am trying to decide whether to buy a Roku3 for my Plex viewing needs.
The slow down happens to me a lot. Sometimes I can just exit Plex and relaunch, other times I have to restart the PS3, sometimes it does a hard crash on my PS3 (where you get the 3 beeps and it shuts off).
HI @DavidIrwin I’ve done a lot of debugging and fixed many real or speculative issues. Although nothing that screams “i’m the problem swat me!”. I put a lot of time into debugging but couldn’t find the issue so I had to focus on some other tasks.
I’m working on our next PS3 and PS4 update at the moment and hoping that this problem is fixed in the new platform version from Sony.
