I think it wouldt be really wonderful to port the “lable sharing restrictions” feature which was added to the movie sharing settings also to the photo library’s.
I will try to shortly explain the usecase:
You normaly don`t spend every festival / holidays / family events with the same people but I normally put all my pictures into one Plex photolibrary. Now I will give some of my friends the option to view all the pictures from the last festival but not the pictures from the last family event, or the opposit I dont want to give my grandmom the option to see the last festival pictures but for sure she have to see the pics from last christmas.
The perfect way is to use the lable option and share the whole photolibrary to my grandmom and to my friends. In the user settings I can write down something like “Fusionfestival” or more globally “festival” “family” “winterholiday” “sommerholiday”. If this feature is implemented in Plex you can use plex perfectly for all photosharing usecases and since Plex is really easy to use on a SmartTV it is no problem for my grandmom to use Plex.
I can imagine that I’m not the only one who will use this feature. But maybe there are not so much people which had this idea? I was really wonderring that this doesnt work right now… I try a long time setup this feature but now I`m really sure that thiuis doesnt work yet.
isn`t there anyone else who wanted to use plex as a perfect allover private/shared photo library server? I can imagine thats a small change for the plex code, but would be a very big step for using the photo librarys.
I hope I get some more votes for my request if I will ask again. The samsung smartTV app has just getting back the feature to view pics and hear music at the same time. Thats great now only the advanced sharing features/filters and PLEX photolibs are nearly perfect.
yes thats what I say it looks like everything is prepared for this sharingoption but sadly it doesnt work. Of course I tryed it a several times with my own testaccount before I started this feature request.
Maybe it is also “only” a bug. The label option has to be on the album/folder layer (or maybe both) but is implemented directly on the picture. My assumption is that this is the reason why you dont see anything with a lable restricted user account in a photo library. Because you are not allowed to see the albums/folders you only have the permission to see the picture inside.
Dont know maybe nobody used this option but I had explained the reason why I think it would be very useful.
I would be very thankful if you also try to enable the restriction and check if it will work on your server. And if not I m thankful too if you give me your vote.
Yes, collections would be the next great step forward to a plex like nice personal photocloud. For me the sharing options is right now more important but of course there are a several points which can level up the photo lib experience. We need just some more people asking for …
The label option on individual photos is completly senseless (or doesnt have any function at all expect of hiding the complete library, I dont know) at all the availability of the option makes the wondering perfect :).

after a long time with much nice updates (also at the photolibs) sadly here did nothing changed in the sharing options. Expect that the option to set a marker at a picture, or to set a marker for pictures in the user config (as you can see in the screenshot from beckfield) is removed now.
That looks for me like they stopped to work at the sharing options in the photo libs, is that right? If it is real I have to look for another solution. Until now I had the hope that plex grow to be my one for all media pool system.
Wouldt be great to get an offical statement. And wouldt also be great to get some more votes for my request.
This is a sorely-needed feature, especially since it’s already available with all the other types of libraries.
It’s really annoying having to have so many Photo libraries to share photos with the right people instead of being able to label folders and albums for easy sharing. Please add this feature!!

Sdly there is no option in this direction since yet. Also the -not working- lable option in the photo libs are gone now… so maybe a step back or a start for a new way for photo filtering? It wouldt be very nice to get some information if something in this direction is plannend in plex?

And again an upvote. I have seen that there is now an option for restrictions in the music album section. OK? Why not everywhere especially in the photos and also in the homemovie libraries it is really important to use this option. There needs to be a different setting for homevideo restrictions and normnal movie restrictions.
It wouldt be really wonderful to get an short answere about a state of development or also an no for the request because than I can look for another option / a better way for sharing pics and homevideos.
+1. I vote for this too. I’m using a Synology, so I guess I’ll have to use PhotoStation for photo sharing and just select a few general albums for Plex. Bummer.
