With the new Samsung Gear VR (by Oculus) for the 2015 Samsung line of smartphones being released, it would be really cool to have a client on it for Plex like there is for Netflix and Hulu… just saying
And the Rift too please. Preordered mine last week!
Based on this article and interview with John Carmack, it seems like it’s a pretty involved process they went through together with NetFlix to build their app for the Gear VR.
Please tell me Plex for Samsung Gear VR is in the works… I Just bought one and it’s awesome. I would love to be able to access my media in Plex though it.
I would absolute love this feature. Where and How do we ask formally?
As described in https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/46128/rules-for-this-forum-inc-how-to-vote, by creating a post in this forum, which is already done right here. The rest of us can then add our support by liking the opening post, so make sure you do that!
Also in an attempt to preempt suggestions about use Stream Theater as an nVidia Shield device: While this kind of works, it is not a satisfactory experience, having latency issues and useless controls. It is not at all a good substitute to a native client.
+1 Deff better than the approach I use now where I stream it to Gear VR using gamestream which introduces some audio delay (Fortunately plex can adjust audio delay but its tedious).
We don’t need anything fancy like netflix just plex in a void theater would be good for me and maybe allow processing for different 3d modes too
I am legally blind so eliminating any “surroundings” and creating an adjustable screen (i.e. virtual distance between user and screen is adjustable) would be great!
For example with a 65" screen the user should sit 9". In my case I would have to sit 3" so if the screen could be adjusted in this manner and eliminating all the other bells and whistles would be great.
please do this!
that would be AWESOME, please do this
S7 preorders are all getting a GearVR so this would be a great time to make a plex app for it. It would certainly spur a few subscribers…
I just received my Gear VR and am amazed the experience I get with the different native content categories, but especially the Netflix app. As Hulu is already working on their own Gear VR app, I of course have been researching how to port my PLEX content, and quickly saw that accessing my PLEX server content through the Gear system is going to be best addressed in a PLEX developed app.
Not sure the scope of the project from a PLEX standpoint would be, but features I’d be looking for would include the same I enjoy with the Adroid app, i.e., access to all content, including music, movies, TV, audio books, and photos through the VR environment.
Put my vote in the jar.
Interested in the Galaxy S7 to replace my aging Nexus 5. Wasn’t to keen on VR gear until I thought about watching Plex in it. Now when I get my VR gear I’ll hold on to it instead of listing it.
Love my Plex. Adding Plex to VR sounds like an excellent lunch date.

I have a friend who has completely stopped using plex since he got his GearVR since it’s the only way he watches video now. A void theater option for plex in any form would be amazing.
I would fully support a Plex VR app. Ideally, it would support the 3 major VR platforms out or due to be released really soon (Gear VR, HTC Vive (preordered), or the Rift). Having a VR theater (potentially selectable?) to watch our media and support for 3D media in the VR Theater would be amazing.
would like support for Gear VR as well. Thx
I also would like Plex supported by my VR. Posting this right now using my Oculus.
I have been working for it for a month. I have an Oculus Video player modified to use Plex as a source, it’s been very hard work but it does work. It’s basic but it supports browsing the full library, thumbnails and transcoding.
I am about to make a post in third party apps describing it with a demo video.
The core features are implemented, it just needs a code tidy up and some performance fixes and it will be ready for alpha.
Support both a home theater view and the void which everyone has requested.
This is for GearVR. I will look to port it to desktop/CV1 as soon as I am done with GearVR alpha

I’m pretty much a walking billboard for the Gear VR and PLEX. If I could put the two together and tell people they could watch their own Home Video Collection anywhere they have an internet connection (or sync) in a virtual reality environment, then I may as well open a shop and invest in stock.
PS
I have shown people Netflix on Gear VR to people that don’t have either and they wanted to purchase both just because.
