How to destroy a very nice app :(

Hi Everyone!

Vey upset with this latest build :frowning:

After this latest update (1.0.1.2396) i am having another metadata issue… Now with TV Shows! it does not download the content. This happen with some shows and does not matter how i named the series still not finding the right content. So now i have metadata issues in movies and TV Series The series are Continnun and Marco Polo. I tried everything but i was unable to download the right content. I already check the TVDB site but even after check if those series are listed there and naming as PLEX need to be done i got nothing.

My first advice to the devs is to check why in past PLEX could get the movies content in PT-BR and now it does not!

My second advice to the devs is to create one way that you can “force” PLEX to download the content just putting the Series ID. Listed in TVDB website.

Now PLEX does not give us (members) an option to download previous version of the app… Very sad… If they are improving the app it´s fine! But give us the decision which version is the best one for our systems! The funny thing is that they create a new version…test it in a few machines…then decide that everything is OK…Launch it and its fine. No! It´s not fine! Please let us decide what it´s fine!

For now, the only solution for my problem was uninstall everything and clean all the files on my HD then downgrade to version (0.9.16.4). I will keep that way. I Still have the problem maning movies in PT-BR but the version works fine with TVDB and runs on ATV4 also has the capability to convert videos. That´s what i recommend.

What OS are you running on the Plex server? I have 1.0.1 installed and I just added a few shows and all the data was found. You should post logs of the Plex Server and the scanner so that a dev can look and see what’s happening.

Windows 10

Post your logs so we can see what’s going on. Close Plex server, restart it, wait two minutes, use the web client to initiate a scan on the TV library (that you know has shows but are missing data), after it’s complete wait one minute, close Plex server, then zip up the logs and post them here.

Ok I update Plex and do it ASAP

Hi!

So after an upgrade to the latest build of PLex I had the same issue: It does not download all the content of TV Series. Please see attached screens and check my logs and try to check what is going wrong.

Braz.

There’s an issue with plex tvdb and using a different language than English. The dev’s are aware and will investigate. I have no more info than that. Sorry for the trouble this is causing you.

That´s one of the reasons a say Why they can´t let us download previous versions?

On 0.9.16.6 works just fine! now it doesn´t :frowning: This kind of thing is that force me to say what i did in the subject!

Anyway… Thank you Peter_W for the info.

+1 BrazMan.

I’m about to dump this whole Plex mess after regression testing failed to identify a serious flaw that cropped up sometime after 0.9.16.6. I’d do ANYTHING to downgrade to 0.9.16.6 to get full functionality back instead of losing untold hours of custom metadata edits I’ve made.

Plex clean up your act you are not beta anymore. These releases needed better QC. Fixes either need to come out very quickly 1-2 day max or let users downgrade.

Brazman you should sort out your naming conventions. It should be “12 Monkeys (2015)”.

“12 Monkeys” is correct.

Although “12 Monkeys” should be enough, adding the year to it “(2015)” in this case, would help drastically. When I can, I always add the year to the title, for either movies and shows.

Because Plex uses TVDB for matching TV shows and TVDB does not include the date in most of their listings it is better to not include the date except where TVDB does. That is generally only when there are multiple shows with exactly the same name. Like “The Flash,” “DR Who,” “The Invisible Man” or “Battlestar Galactica.”

Also it seems to work better if the date is only included in the folder name for TV shows.

That is you would have a folder in your TV library called “Battlestar Galactica (1980)” and under that a “Season 01” folder and the files in that folder named like:
“Battlestar Galactica - s01e01 - Saga of a Star World (1).mkv”

Other naming schemes do work most of the time but they break more often and might break at any time when either Plex or TVDB changes something.

I am not saying that having the date in the file/folder name for all TV shows is “wrong” what I am saying is that there have been several cases where a TV show that does not need a date but had one suddenly quit matching shows.

For movies I do believe that the date should always be there but even then I have had matching problems when the date did not agree with the database. That usually happened when there were several release dates for a movie.

Having said that I always use a date for my movies. It even allows correct matching when it does not seem that there could be good matches. One of the best examples I have are these two movies:
Superman II (1980)
and
Superman II The Richard Donner Cut (2006)
The are mostly the same movie but there are pretty major differences that make them quite different. Without the date they both match to just Superman II (1980) but when you include the date you get correct metadata for each movie detailing the differences.
BTW: I like the (2006) movie better. it flow a bit more smoothly and makes a bit more sense.

But that is away from the main flow of this post. Bottom line is I think you should always include the date in movies but only include it it TV shows when there is a conflict without it.

Oh come, don’t use such hyperbole. Plex isn’t destroyed. Sometimes there are problems and bugs, but they can be fixed and remedied with some help from the forums. Or just make a nice bug report with logs and reproducible steps, and the devs will fix it in an upcoming release (hopefully).

No hyperbole here. A full 1/2 of my 3500 music videos stopped playing after version 0.9.16.6. Others reported similar issues. Months passed. Even more months of the 0.9.17.0 series brought no relief. Then the 1.0.0.0 version released with new features but the same issues - and blocked downgrades. Weeks have passed since then.

It sure would be good to have a regular BVT with each release. And the ability to downgrade if a newer version causes significant regressions. And speedy replies from development for Plex Pass members. The cool new features are useless unless the basic stuff like playing video works reliably and consistently from release to release.

Hi!

I understand that naming the files as it needs to be done is the key to get the right metadata…but since version 1.00 doesn´t matter how you name it you get several load errors. What makes me disapointed is the fact that seems to me that Plex Inc. was sold and the people that buy the company just release something to say " Hey take a look in our new app"… They want to grow and be in all the devices… and it´s fine to do this but keep the main focus that is the app.

Ok… I still have hope but i just want to say that after all these nice job done they suddenly upgrade the website and give us a fresh version… I think is not nice to users (Pass or not) do such a thing unless they keep the option to users to do whatever they want to. I mean i could upgrade and if i think does not work well for my needs i am able to downgrade.

I Agree with this post below: Most of the users just want to use PLEX for basic stuff (play your files and get the metadata with artwork) all other feature is useless. If you want to convert use handbrake… even the cloud sync is useless because Plex or cloud services does not “allow” you to upload all your library.

Another sad thing is that " Weeks have passed since then" Nobody from Plex have issue any info about bugs or even a new realease. Also they do not give us access to downgrade.

I will think a thousand times before renew my plexpass :frowning:

Braz.

I just wanna say thanks to @kegobeer-plex that tried to help me but it seems that the problem is reall a bug.

THX,
Braz.

Just to complete the info:

As i say in my first comment since some previous versions i have a bug that gets my movie metadata in PT-PT even if i set the app in PT-BR. I think the reason of that is because when you going to create a new library PLEX only have the option “Portuguese” My advice to the devs is create in the list Portuguese-BR or create a way to PLEX check the IP range and get the metadata from this area.

The only reason i do not dowgrade to older versions of PLEX (without this bug) is because it´s not compatible with AppleTV! The one that works little bit better is 0.9.16.6.

Braz.
