[Feature Request] Commercial Skipping for DVR

Can Plex add commercial skipping either as a control for watching recorded DVR? Or automatic post processing removal of recorded shows using DVR?

Automatic would be amazing B)

Automatic post processing would be great, but if not, how about a simple +30 forward, or -15 backward, time skip like in Windows Media Center.

I am in for this great feature. An option in the DVR settings would be nice to automatically detect and not record the commercial.

I would also love to have the standard 30 forward, 15 back time skip, where each press skips time an equal amount (I keep hitting the right arrow key too fast in a row, and instead of skipping 4 x 30 seconds or whatever, I skip 3 or 5 or whatever minutes - which I think is how it works in regular Plex with media files, but not what I’m used to when watching a recording and skipping through commercials).

Which client?, because this already exists.

Good question - I was trying to remember which client I’m using now for watching my DVR recordings. I was catching up on my Plex news today and saw that Plex Home Theater is no longer supported (I think that’s what I have installed on my Windows HTPC), and instead I need to replace it with Plex Media Player?

If that’s all I need to do to get that kind of time skipping, that’d be amazing! I’ll check it out tonight…

yes PMP (Plex Media Player) works a treat… I use the arrows on me keyboard which skips as you describe.

With the new DVR feature there is a window to point to a post processing script. I have used it to point to a batch file that runs comskip.exe. This set up works fine except PLEX does not support comskip commercial skipping. So I am playing PLEX recorded video back in NextPVR to watch video without commercials. I am sure that this window could be used to point to MCEBuddy to delete commercials as well. I already have nextPVR set up and running, so it was an easy way to go.

If Tivo can somehow do it, I’m sure Plex can. Here’s hoping.

@cwollitz im pretty sure in the DVR there is an option for a post process script, surely you can link MCEBuddy into that?

The post processing script option works great with MCEBuddy. A simple Google search will get you setup info.

It took be a bit to figure out all the different options and how to set this up, but I eventually got it working. Sadly, you have to get the premium version of MCEBuddy to get the postprocess option to work. That being said, the $30 was worth it to skip commercials and to support great software.

Does MCEBuddy run on OS X?

I, too, would love to see automatic commercial skipping built into Plex. For OS X users like me, I found this postprocessing script to apply Comskip to all Plex DVR recordings. But it looks hellaciously complex for those of us who have only a passing familiarity with the command line.

Having commercial skipping built right in would be ideal. Failing that, if you folks would kindly enable the 30 seconds forward / 10 seconds back ability on the Mac, I’d be most grateful! It’s not currently working on my freshly downloaded PMP for Mac – nor is anything but play/pause support for the Apple Remote.

I would love this feature as well

Turns out I also posted this idea. Unfortunately, my post was closed and deleted. Sucks but at least i’m not in trouble (I hope). To be fair, I didn’t see this post.

This is definitely good for TV shows, but if I’m recording a movie that I’d like to keep, it would be annoying to have to do.

Need the options to select if commercials a skipped by cutting out completely or inserting chapter marks. It’s my experience that tools like comskip at times cut part of the program itself and I’d like the ability to correct using forward and reverse.

Removing of commercials has been implemented and is currently available to Plex Pass users in Beta. This morning’s PMS 1.10.0.4516 update includes it. Make sure to set your Update Channel to Beta. This is a beta feature, so more development to come

The current implementation removes the commercials before the content is saved to your library.
