Ok, so I already had a (by Plex) none supported PCI-E Hauppauge Dual Tuner that I use for TVHeadend running on Ubuntu Linux 16.04 (Linux 4.4.0-81201706200620-generic on x86_64)).
Mostly for fun, I bought a USB Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD (supported by Plex).
Both the PCI-E and the USB tuner show up as “Silicon Labs Si2168” in TVHeadend, so the should perform equally (or so I would assume).
Here is what I did…
-
I followed these instructions (http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/linux.html) in order to install the “Hauppauge PPA” on the server.
-
I plugged in the USB stick, and attached the antenna cable.
-
Plex (PMS - Version 1.7.3.3937) found the USB stick, and I proceeded to scan for channels. None were found. Hmmm…
-
Rebooted the server.
-
Did step 3 once more - the expected channels were found (well, mostly, see below)
Minor complaints/suggestions
Via PMS I “removed” the USB stick, to rescan for HD-channels, and once again I had to reboot the server in order to find any channels, so that seems to be a thing…(New device = reboot in order to find any channels at all)
I tried a “full frequency” scan too - no channels found at all…(I had better luck with “DVB-T/T2 Sweden”, and the same result with the closest broadcasting antenna “DVB-T/T2 Sweden (Stockholm Nacka)”.
Bugg?
Two channels weren’t found at all, both being broadcasted in HD (DVB-T2), namely “SVT1 HD” and “SVT2 HD”.
They are also broadcasted in SD, and were found as such, so at least I can watch them in SD.
But yeah, I miss my two free-to-air HD channels in all their HD glory.
TVHeadend, with the same “Silicon Labs Si2168”, can play them fine, so I doubt it is the USB stick.
Or am I missing something obvious?
PS
After I got everything up and running, I fired up the Plex client on my Android Smartphone…no lIve TV…
Hmm…
Did some reading…“IOS and Android TV” only. Doh!
Oh well, I guess I’ll have to wait a while (I did try it om my Android TV device, and it works fine - a bit sluggish, but fine).
