Plex DVR stopped recording but shows are listed as 100% recorded

DVR feature stopped working on July 22. After that day, programs are showing in the recording schedule as “Recorded 100%” but the program doesn’t exist.

I’ve updated the HD HomeRun firmware, and confirmed the device is working (the streaming to IP 10.0.0.65, Plex Server is on 10.0.0.5)

But the programs that should have been scheduled in the last 24 hours, none of them actually show up, and the corresponding activity for them doesn’t appear in the tuner log.

I have this exact problem. Tried restarting HD Homerun, reinstalling server latest version, rescheduling programs from scratch, out of ideas.

Do what others who have experienced this transcode error that causes Plex recordings to hang at 100% have done. Drop back to 1.6.1. Will give up Live TV but recordings will actually work.

Thank you, that’s what I had to do. Hopefully we’ll get a heads up when this crap is fixed.

Having the same problem with AverMedia Hyper Q.

Without doing ANYTHING I’ve started getting some recordings actually being recorded. I simply came back a week later to find new recordings in the library from today and yesterday.

I’m tempted to install 1.8.0 to see if anything is improved.

I’m seeing exclamation marks for various upcoming recordings over the next few days, but clicking on them doesn’t display any message whatsoever.

I have 1.8 and it doesn’t record most of the time or only records a few minutes. On Windows 10 and using a Hauppage WinTV-HVR-955Q

I’m using PMS 1.8.1.4140 on Synology DS216+II, and HDHomeRun Dual.

Just recorded a 30 min show, ending at 6 PM. It’s now 6:33 PM, and I can see the .grab folder file for the show is getting larger and larger. It’s now 2.69 GB.

I have “convert video while recording” set to transcode.
I have “use hardware acceleration when available” set to checked.

File is now 2.76 GB. and rising.

It doesn’t look like it stopped recording when it should have. I see that the HDHomeRun light is on. So it must still be recording something?

So… are we really declaring the DVR ready for prime time (i.e., out of beta)? Since I upgraded to 1.8.x I thought all was fixed until last night when I had a recording hang. Bummed. Maybe I’ll go back to 1.6.1 this weekend. Or maybe DirecTv Now will have their DVR up and running soon. Now that they added CBS, I really don’t need the antenna and HDHR tuners anymore.

@goatherdered If you can provide logs from when the recording should have stopped, I’d be interested to have a look.

I think it’s too late to get the logs at this point. I do see that the show I recorded was finally made available, and stopped growing in size. It’s possible that the setting to transcode on the fly was causing the problem. CPU on the NAS was at 90+ % the whole time it was recording. Maybe it buffered the main stream, and continued chewing away at the file after the recording end time passed.

If you want, I can try and reproduce the issue again.

@goatherdered If you could reproduce it, it’d be much appreciated.

For the last 2 nights, my recordings of CBS’ Colbert have failed to finalize themselves to be viewable. I suspect that tonight will be no different. Nothing has changed here. 1.8.x has been running for a while with recordings every night being fine. Out of nowhere, the recordings are failing. The record engine is running and is close to up-to-date. There was a tuner hung, though. Nothing was recording and only streaming was going on, so why was a tuner still tuned to a station I don’t watch? Maybe the HDHR unit was in a funny state? Nonetheless, I cycled both of them and now none of the 4 tuners show activity. Let’s see if the recordings finish. I will know in the morning.

I still don’t think that the DVR should have been moved to General Acceptance (GA) status from Beta. It’s still a Beta release IMHO. And I’m most likely to downgrade to the 1.6.1 release this weekend if the recordings still fail. With the fall season coming up soon, I (and many others) will require a stable, multi-tuner DVR. With 1.6.x, I’ll only get 2 of the 4 tuners to work with Plex. 1.8.x supposedly fixed this, but I can’t trust it. Just when I thought my troubles were over… phooey.

The late show was scheduled to stop at 11:37 PM. It shows as 100% and still “recording” at 11:57 PM. Here are the logs. I see the file is still growing on the NAS. This is with the HDHomeRun set to transcode.

@goatherdered The logs report stopping at 11:37pm

Aug 10, 2017 23:37:01.001 [0x7f8a213ff700] DEBUG - DVR:Grabber: Cancelling operation for ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert - E200 - Millie Bobby Brown; Jim Jefferies; Zeshan B’ with status complete.

I’d be interested to see what happens if you have transcode turned off. If the HDHR is doing the transcoding, it could be just catching up?

Nope. 3rd night with failed recordings. Back to 1.6.1. Not acceptable for a ‘commercial’ product. Almost akin to Windows Vista. People had to downgrade to XP to get away from it.

Yes, I’ll attach logs next time.

Ok. Logs attached. Failures on 8/8, 8/9, 8/10 all starting at 23:35 EDT.

Funny enough, my Late Show recording still has not stopped “recording” and it’s 11 AM Friday. Sounds like similar problem as @lmolter . The .grab file is not changing in size and was last updated 12:53 AM 8/11. Attaching log.

My recording of Nightline did finish.

The HDHomeRun Dual I have does not have on-board transcoding; transcoding is being done by the NAS.

Here’s a screen shot of the recording schedule.

My recordings stops at 100% too. But after like 1-2 hours it got finish and added to the libary. And sometimes plex media server craches.

I use plex media server Version 1.8.0.4109 on Ubuntu server 16.04 with Hauppauge Wintv-DualHD
