Could the server UI be updated to allow playing a recording video to be played from the Recording schedule view?
I see what you are saying and currently playing a video while its recording is not supported. I am sure they are working on the ability to provide that functionality as its fairly standard with other DVR systems and that would be a nice feature to click it from the schedule to play.
@nokdim That’s not strictly true. You can watch a live stream of something you’re recording, you just can’t start from the beginning, you just start from when you tuned in. 
Technically “You can watch a live stream of something you’re recording” ONLY if you have a dual tuner and tuners are not tied up recording other things.
So you can technically tune to a channel that you might also be recording at the same time but cant start a recording after it began and skip commercials like on other DVRs.
Top tuner is when I only setup a recording for show X
Bottom tuner is when recording was running and I tuned in Live to same show
Hopefully the system gets smart enough so if I want to watch something that is already being recorded it will just feed the client the “DVR Recorded” session data instead of having to request a new tuner and obviously allow time shifting as well.
@nokdim Again, I’m afraid you’re mistaken here. I only have two tuners, and can have them both engaged in recording something, and also tune it to watch one the items I’m recording live (I’ve done this many, many times).
@DaveBinM I guess you are right on mine for some reason if I tune to something that’s being recorded it seems to grab a new tuner and after a minute or less drops it.
I am not sure I would consider it “supported” as it only seems to work a small percentage of the time and causes issues with recordings for me and many others reported on the forums just like the link I reported in the first place.
So as a perfect example I literally just spun up 2 random recordings and tried to tune to 1 of them live and this happened to the one I tried to tune into…
So yeah if the stars are aligned and you click it just right and in the correct sequence you might get it to work…
That my friend I do not call a supported feature sounds more like an unintended feature.
Is there any official documentation for this “feature” or lack there of?

I’d love this feature as well. Coming from SageTV, this feature seems like a no-brainer. If Sage was able to figure it out over 10 years ago and have it work on htpc’s that had crazy slow (compared to today) specs, Plex can add this feature now. I’m concerned that the way they chose to demux/remux the video files post-recording instead of just laying down the digital mpeg2 direct from the tuner is getting in the way?
Since we have live tv timeshifting now available, it wouldn’t take much to treat all scheduled recordings the same way.
