Watch a DVR recording as it is still recording? Multiple devices watching same live channel?

I recently added a Tuner Card to my Plex Server so I could record things. Overall it seems to work well. However I noticed a few things that either didn’t seem to work or I wasn’t able to figure out how to get them to do what I wanted.

  1. Is it possible to watch a recording while it is still recording? For example I set it to record NFL games say it starts at Noon and at 2PM I am able to start watching can I watch the DVR recording while it continues to record the rest of the game? If so how? If not how do we get this added as a enchancement?

  2. I use PC’s, Roku’s and mobile devices to watch Plex. Is it possible when watching live TV for multiple devices to view the same channel? I feel like most of the time I get an error on my Roku if I try to have it play channel 5.1 (CBS) in my area when it is already being viewed from my PC. So is this working as intended or is there a setting or something that I am not enabling.

  2. I am pretty sure this should work. I have seem other posts where plex ninjas and employees described exactly this functionality. If there is a channel already being streamed live and another player tunes in as well, Plex will reuse the existing stream and not engage a second tuner from your tuner pool. The caveat might be that both players must ask for the exact same stream options (like transcode size etc).
