Well, seems we are back to DVR recordings being unreliable…usually they can get a chunk of OTA TV, but invariably, the final file I have is not the complete program. Playing the file works to a point…sometimes 2/3rds of the way through…and then it appears the transcoding fails.
Of course, the program that fails the MOST often is (for some reason) The Bachelor. Plex seems to delight in wrecking my wife’s favorite shows, leaving me to explain why (suspiciously) her favorites seem to fail the most.
I REALLY need you guys to fix this for the sake of a happy marriage!
Seems at some point I turned DVR Transcoding…after turning it off, I do notice the transitions between commercial cuts have changed. With transcoding off, the commercial editing cuts performed by Plex are sharp and decisive…with DVR settings having transcoding ON, there is some weird pixilation that occurs between cuts…
So I’m going to run the system for a while with transcoding off. The file size may be slightly bigger, but storage is cheap. If it improves reliability after about a week, I’ll update this post.
Thanks rbkick. I look forward to hearing your results. I will try that out as well.I posted on another forum, my wife is leading a Plex mutiny on me now as 3 weeks in a row, the DVR stops or has some odd error on the last 6-8 minutes of Amazing Race. So we all go running down to finish on the old Windows Media Server box I am trying to remove…to which wife says “why cant we just stick with this…” grrrrr…
