[implemented] Sort Order for Sections / Libraries

I would love the ability to add a sort title to sections in order to group them more intelligently.  For me, Music and TV Shows are the most important, by far.  Music, though used, is much less prominent and other sections are very much specialty items that should be last.

Being able to sort these by something other than the section display title would be extremely helpful and consistent with other items throughout Plex.

+1 !

i thought the same a few times.

right now, its sorted alphabetically . But like u said, it would make more sense to order the Sections manually.

And then, maybe its possible to add a page function for the Library inside the Dashboard. Like its with "On Deck" and "recently added".

I have already two rows , but with a lot of sections that i only use sporadically. So it would make more sense, to have them on a second page.

Maybe u guys could add just an Option for PlexPass-Users to choose between alphabetically/manually order and between "two rows view" and "page view" ?

Page would depend largely on the client, so I can't see it being implemented.  The Sort Title as used for shows and movies would be perfect, in my opinion.  That leaves the most options in the users' hands without being a very different implementation.  Leaving Sort Title blank would fall back to the title (alphabetical sorting).

As an example, Plex would sort sections as:

Home Videos

Movies

Music

Music Videos

Special Events

TV Shows

Personally, I would prefer that the more frequently used sections be placed together at the top of the list:

Movies

TV Shows

Music

Music Videos

Special Events

Home Videos

Not everyone would agree that either of the two above was the best order, which is why we need the ability to sort them ourselves.

nobody interested?! really?

it's so annoying to have my main sections at the end of the order.

on iOS, i have to swipe 4 times to see my main movie section. this isn't really user-friendly.

would be great so have an option for "Set Dashboard order manually" and "Set Dashboard order alphabetically".

Please guys, like the first post and push this thread with some +1's :D

Several other similar requests from the last year here (e.g., this and this) have been locked down in favor of this one to prevent dueling requests...

I vote for it too. I'm a software engineer so realized i could just name them "1 Movies" "2 Animated Movies" etc. to achieve what I desired (which was to have movies at the top, Music near the bottom since the ps4 player doesn't support it yet, and Porn at the very end :P

Considering the dashboard allows sorting, it seems on the face of it that (assuming your codebase is nicely factored) that much of the pluming is there...

As I said numeric prefixes do the trick, but it doesn't look as slick that way.

Thanks,

Here is a “dirty trick” which works in many clients without giving a visual distraction:

Edit the library names and prepend a space character to the library name.
You can use several space characters.
The library with the most space characters “wins” and is placed first.

[edit: if you use 'zero-width space’s instead, it looks good even on clients which don’t support this trick

What is the current status of this issue? I have the same problem and I guess many others have it as well.

Would love to change the sorting order without having to use numbers and/or spaces!
So 1 like from me.

I have (for now) “solved” it as shown in the pic below.

As well as being able to sort the libraries, I would also like to be able to choose which libraries appear in e.g. the android app.

This would allow me to hide libraries that I never use on specific devices.

Thanks

Only one feature request per thread, please. https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/46128/rules-for-this-forum-inc-how-to-vote

You can achieve what you want by creating a user, sharing only the libraries you want to appear on the android device with that user, and logging in on the android device with that user.

Would love to see this. Library sort order really needs to happen!

what I want to know is why this isn’t a thing yet haha. Especially since all the clients now show the space trick and it looks stupid.

Which ones do?
I don’t see it in those I am using.

The new 2.x design does it much better.
Here the first two options are MOVIES and SHOWS. If you have more than one of each the last visited is active when you select either MOVIES or SHOWS.

However I use Plex a lot on my Samsung 2016 UHD Smart-TV, and it does not yet have the new design, and moving all the way down to select TV Shows is tedious.

I currently have 9 libraries, for various reasons. It would be nice to see this implemented.

The sidebar (or whatever it’s called) on my Apple TV 4 shows the spaces in the Library names.

Gotcha.
There is a refinement to the ‘leading space character trick’:
replace the ‘space’ characters by 'zero-width space’s

Here is explained how to ‘type’ it:

This should look alright even on the ATV.

How is this not implemented already? Seems to me like a no brainer
