This was a problem introduced by Microsoft during one of the Alpha tests. The issue was later corrected and should have been fixed by the time the fall update went live.
The unfortunate part is that the Plex developers don’t have a way to change how the letterbox is rendered in the media player framework. And so if you’re seeing this type of issue on the live update, it needs to get reported to Microsoft to get a proper fix going.

Hmm, I cannot confirm this (just tested it out)
Yesterday a new alpha update was released. I thought maybe it reintroduced the update.
Are you in the preview programme?
What console do you have (OG Xbox or Xbox One S) ?
Hey thanks for the replies, I got OG xbox one, never been part of any testing, just installed the new update which has caused this issue.
Thats odd. I havn’t seen that issue for a while. Is this the “old” Plex app or the Fancy “new” one?
They are different in that the old one is labeled as “plex” and the new one “plex for xbox one” in the xbox store. If you are using the old one, try the new one with the horribly non-intuitive UI.
I really can’t see this problem being in the public fall update, although I suppose it’s possible the artifact was left in. Unless the xbox media player has an update you havn’t installed yet?
You solved it! Had no idea there was another version, tried that and it works. I’ll reinstall the older one sometime to see if it’s fixed, may have just been the update being weird. Thanks for the help!
