1.13.9.5439 server: (almost) no devices working

Server Version#: 1.13.9.5439
Player Version#: Android: 7.6.2.7169 IOS 5.5.1

There are a number of threads current related to specific devices not being able to connect or play media, but my experience seems to be a superset of these - most devices are now not working.

On Android (a Galaxy S6), I get the “There was an error navigating to the specified item. Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again.” error when I try and play a video or music.

On IOS, I get “SERVER is unavilable”. This is true both on ios 12.0.1 and ios 9.3.5

On a laptop connected to my network wirelessly, I get “This site cannot be reached”. (NB but I can ping the server from the same laptop, and access files on it).

On a wired XBox One and a desktop PC, everything works fine.

This seems to have steadily unravelled since updating to the last server version ( 1.13.9.5439) but honestly can’t be 100% sure of that timescale.

I do experience the temporary imnprovement if I clear the data from the Android version and resinstall, but it is only temporary. And my reason for posting is given the problems on other devices, I just wonder if that is something of a red herring.

In the attached logs, I restarted so that the file plex media server.log would just contain one session of trying various devices.

192.168.1.76 is the server. *.81 is the iPad. *.69 is the Android device. *.70 is the wired desktop (which worked). The laptop connected wirelessly is on *.165 which doesn’t appear in the logs (but see below).

I am using a dedicated server running Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS fully updated. My router is a BT Hub 6A running firmware SG4B1000D038. This setup is unchanged for a long time and has worked flawlessly hitherto.

Although the instruction regarding attaching logs makes it clear not to have verbose mode turned on ( so I haven’t) I have separately turned it on and looked at the logs, and for the failures there are entries along the lines of

Oct 28, 2018 10:20:01.076 [0x7fd455ffe700] VERBOSE - We didn’t receive any data from xx.xxx.xxx.xx:61411 in time, dropping connection. (where xx.xxx.xxx.xx is my home IP address). This appears with multiple ports being tried.

Hope this adds some helpful information.

There are reports of 1.13.9 breaking iOS. I do not have android to confirm but it might also be occurring there too.

Do you have a previous version of PMS you can fall back to for test purposes?

If you have 1.13.2 -> 1.13.4, this would be ideal as it’s prior to a number of server networking changes.

Same issues here - it seems to be all the way since the first V1.13 - previous threads have reported the same - suggesting to revert to 1.12

I don’t have access to an older version, but if you could point me at where I could download one happy to give it a try.

1.13.9 is a beta release, to revert back to the current public release set your Server update Channel to Public in your server settings (General section) or grab the non-Plex Pass version from the downloads page: https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/

For more detail on how to change between the releases check this support article: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201844613-early-access-beta-releases/

Interesting. My Server Update Channel is set to “Public”. I have never had it set to Beta. So at some point recently the 1.13.9.5439 version I am on must have been offered to me as an update to download. I only ever install server updates when the “new version is available to download” appears.

I will try the 1.13.8/5395 version and report back

OK - 1.13.8.5395 installed and exactly the same symptoms.

Would be happy to try an older version and post logs if a link could be provided.

… and, indeed, would be delighted to have an older version so I could be up and running again!

1.9.1 works perfect

i revered back to 1.12 also working better then 1.13

Managed to download 1.12.3.4973 and still get the same symptoms. Looks like it must be the new versions of the players :frowning:

I have two servers. The Ubuntu 18.04LTS server only gets updates from the repository… in the server GUI, it is set to public channel… but shows an update to 1.13.9 is available!

When I run ‘sudo apt update’… and ‘apt list --upgradeable’… it shows:

plexmediaserver/unknown 1.13.9.5456-ecd600442 amd64 [upgradable from: 1.13.8.5395-10d48da0d]

It certainly seems like its out of beta, and into public!!! I am not upgrading.

My Windows 10 server, GUI set to public. Also prompts for an update to 1.13.9…!!!

I don’t have any current known issues with 1.13.8.5395

I’m am seeing the behavior running PMS 1.13.9.5456 on a Windows 10 machine. I’ll notice in Task Manager that Plex Media Server.exe will go show 0 CPU utilization. I can kill the process and start PMS again, and it will work, but not for very long.

It is very frustrating because it affects watching DVR content, it also screws up any shows that are supposed to be recording.
