"Server Unavailable" after update

Server Version#: DSM 6.2.1-23824 on RS2416+
Player Version#: Plex Pass downgraded to 1.13.4

hello everyone

I am new here and judging from having read a few topics, am considerably less experienced than most of you, so please be gentle

I have been running Plex on a Synology server for quite a while now, connecting to a few Apple TV’s throughout the building and using it on my laptop as well.

Ever since the latest update, I keep getting an error saying the “server is unavailable”. This is something that has happened before and would sort of magically sort itself out after a day or two, but this has now been going on for more than a week, and I can’t seem to figure it out.

I have tried to downgrade to 1.13.4 as was suggested in another thread but no dice.

the weird thing is that every once in a while, the front page will show up, which shows all the media (films etc) but then that goes away immediately again, if one tries to click on a film.

Can anyone explain to me what I am doing wrong? It’s sort of ruining my weekend.

thanks

hello

thanks so much for your reply

here are my logs

Plex Media Server Logs_2018-10-21_19-42-03.zip (7.2 MB)

hello

thanks for this reply

I managed to delete the .pid and preferences.xml

restarted the router and switch (the apple tv’s are not connected via wifi but via UTP)

signed out and restarted plex

upgraded again to the latest version 1.13.9.5439

and still I don’t get what I am doing wrong

now I only get the “server unavailable” every once in a while (on all devices so web and apple tv), but more importantly

now I keep getting these two error messages

“conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install”

and

“Something went wrong playing your media. Please try again.”

thanks for your patience, please let me know what I should do

thanks

here are the logs

i tried to copy the xml but nothing really comes up

http://192.168.3.110:32400/library/metadata/207869?checkFiles=1&includeExtras=1&includeBandwidths=1&X-Plex-Token=QcbxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxyU

this is the url that it goes to, not sure if that is of any use to you?

more importantly
what now worries me is that in Package Center on Synology admin console, Plex’s status is not running and whenever I click “run” nothing happens

thanks

You are running partial install of the old version 1.13.4.5271

I also see that at this time Oct 22, 2018 10:37:40 you had both versions running - a corrupted 1.13.4.5271 install and 1.13.9.5439 - the latter failed because the other process had ports 32400 and 32401 open

These are oldest logs
shows the old version running between 10:30:05 and 10:41:19

This shows you launching Plex Media Server 1.13.9.5439 during this period - so ended up with 2 instances of Plex Media Server running !

failed because 1.13.4.5271 running and ports open

Then you are back with running the corrupt install of the previous version - probably because your upgrade was only partial - it removed some 1.13.4.5271 files but did not replace the rest correcty / completely
