The lack of response from the Plex Team is very discouraging. The Plex forums are a mess too. I see so many different postings about this issue when I perform a Forum search for “timeshift”. The forums are so fractured. It makes it difficult for customers to have a focused resource to voice their concerns about most issues. I guess that works for the Plex Team as it appears to dilute the attention to a serious issue. We can continue to include @elan and other Plex Team members in these postings but it doesn’t do any good. Plex had the advantage at the beginning but competitors like Emby have bested them in the Live TV and DVR functionality and responsive and informative support in well structured forum.
I’ve tried Emby multiple times in the past and hated it. But, I tried their DVR and I need to test it more, but it seems to work okay. It’s a bit ridiculous that this issue can’t be identified and fixed.
I now regret paying for the lifetime pass as I feel like I forfeited any leverage I may have had. I’m not a revenue stream any more.
I would like to add that I am able to watch a program from the beginning IF AND ONLY IF THE RECORDING HAS BEEN COMPLETED. That is, if the game starts at noon, and I sit down to start watching at 1pm, I cannot start from the beginning. I can only start from now. When I select rewind, it only goes back to the time I started watching. When the recording finishes at 4pm, I can watch from the beginning, so it IS recording during that time. I am unable to watch it until it is over. Interestingly, Emby is doing the same thing, so I think it has something to do with my tuners (Hauppage WinTV-quad). Thank you.
I have this same issue with Android TV and Plex 1.16.6.1592 running in a FreeNAS Jail. Seeking is fine with LiveTV - but this issue shows itself if I try to record and watch the show at the same time.
Specifically with football - makes it very tough to get a late start and try to skip commercials / halftime. The first seek works after start from beginning but the second might fast forward to Live TV or freeze the stream.
As a workaround, I set up a HTPC box with a path to the source file (.grab folder) and we are able to stream/seek using VLC player to play the file directly.
In troubleshooting, I removed Plex from AndroidTV and reinstalled it - even went as far as reverting my TV to default config. No luck.
I hope this gets fixed before the end of the season as this is quite a hassle to do. If I can provide any logs to assist, please let me know and I will gladly do so.
I agree about the Plex Pass leverage. I am thankful that I got my pass when it as first offered, so I think I got my moneys worth. It is disappointing that Plex is still shilling their Plex Pass DVR when it is still broken. We are really liking Emby DVR. It is such a relief to have a reliable DVR. I keep checking to see if there has been any progress, but I see from looking through the DVR forums post that they haven’t had any luck in getting Plex DVR working properly. We still use Plex as our media server, just not for DVR.
Still happening for me. I just want to keep these threads alive in the hope that maybe a dev will respond someday.
