Unfortunately, it seems this version of Plex consistently freezes up during live TV. The live stream will work fine for about 10-20 minutes and then it will simply freeze on a frame.
Going to the Plex dashboard on the web on and on the PC shows a high CPU utilization of 80-90%. Luckily, if we hit Back on the Roku player this exits out to the Guide and it seems the Plex Transcoder.exe is released, and the CPU falls back down to 10-20%.
We’ve noticed this over the weekend for college games and now NFL games. Very consistent as I mentioned seems like every 15-20 minutes.
After another weekend of usage on Version 1.18.3.2129, this issue did not appear. There was one instance where it did seem to happen again, but the streaming went into the “progress circle of doom” mode to recalibrate and restream.
Cautiously optimistic that this issue has been resolved. I will give it another week to re-verify and confirm here.
Well after a weekend of six hours on Saturday on 2 simultaneous streams and six hours yesterday on one stream with zero hitches or issues, I am marking this as fixed as of Version 1.18.4.2164.
Really nice work over there, team. Plex is a dream when it works.
So, thinking this issue is a bandwidth/connection issue with the server. We had some configuration issues with the Roku and setting up the home network. The connection speed was 15-20mps. We’ve done some adjustments and now it’s sitting up at around 40-45mps.
Yesterday I set Plex to transcode video to the player at 20mps quality and watched the NFC division game with zero problems… and great picture.
I still feel there is a latent UX issue here with Plex when it doesn’t stream appropriately, however. Usually it pops up the Spinning Circle of Loading Doom™ but sometimes it does freeze and the only course of action is to hit back on the Roku remote or go to Home and restart Plex.
Will update here with further instances of this issue if they occur.
Bah… another day, a different time. Just had this occur again. It’s a hard freeze that requires exiting out of Plex altogether from Roku and starting it over again.
Seems like an obvious bug. Any assistance, please?
I’d recommend posting the PMS logs and then I’ll see if I can get a dev to take a look.
Please make sure that VERBOSE is OFF and DEBUG is ON. Use this procedure to get a zip file of all the logs files and then drag/drop the zip file into a post.
GREAT… thank you for your assistance, @darcilicious it is very much appreciated. I have noticed this has been happening on certain channels, but I am not sure if that is due to “luck” (for lack of a better term) or not.
I want to say that I made the above post about 5-10 minutes prior to this latest freeze. It was on channel 3.1 WWMT CBS, which I have noticed this problem occur before.
One quick note here is that there have been messages on channels lately to rescan due to frequency changes. I have gone ahead and done that and am monitoring. I will update if/when another freeze occurs.
Thank you again for any assistance you can provide! Please let me know if there is any further information you require from me to further diagnose.
Ah, I do see Version 1.18.5.2309 is available and have installed it. I will know this weekend with the big game. It’s tricky to know though as some weekends it works great and others it locks up like a buggah.
In any case, I will let you know of any developments by end of weekend/Monday at the latest.
Alright, took about an hour @darcilicious but we got our first freeze on channel 17.1 on Version 1.18.5.2309 at approximately 12:52pm ET (5:52pm UTC). Here are the logs:
Please let me know if there is anything further I can provide to help diagnose this issue.
Hm, the upload is not working for some reason. Here is a OneDrive link to the logs for your review, @darcilicious… let me know if you run into any problems accessing it:
Also, for the sake of thoroughness, I have captured the logs about 10 minutes after the freeze and after restarting the channel. There might be some additional information there that wasn’t captured in the above:
Hello, wanted to check in with this issue. It just occurred again around 7:14 UTC today. Still having problems with uploading the zip file here so logs can be found at the following link:
