1080p-HW Transcoding dont work @ Intel NUC

I dont understand what you want. Most questions have already been answered. The problem is with PLEX, others like EMBY have no problems.

Good news!

I have updated Windows 10 to 1903 (Insider). After that, Windows Update installs an Intel System driver (10.23.0.2427). Togehter with the PMS 1.15.5.994 Hardware Transcoding works all the time!

Strange how a plex problem was solved by an OS upgrade and a new video driver.
seriously though, thanks for the feedback, I am ugrading to 1903 on by test box right now!

as far as google can find, this looks to be a realtek audio driver. bizzare that a realtek driver would make an impact. Can you confirm what this driver was for?
I installed 1903 on my test system, along with intel UHD 630 graphics driver 26.20.100.6709, no luck for me so far :frowning:

Since the update to 1.15.4.994, the hw transcoding almost does not work anymore.

It sucks so hard…

DEVS?!?!?!

I found the same thing on my 9600k under windows. sometimes it kicks in, other times it fails to. I moved it to linux and synology, and it is mucho better.

Linux is no option for me. :frowning:

Yup, second Plex install using win 10 and same thing, spotty HW transcodes. This machine could go Ubuntu route but it’s just such a pain to reinstall!

push!!!

Hi, I obviously can’t speak for the dev’s, but it is highly likely that this will not be fixed until they release the updated transcoder with newer ffmpeg.

Just curious, have they stated anywhere that it will be fixed for sure with the ffmpeg updates?

AFAICR In one of the many threads complaining about 4k transcoding, someone from plex stated something about they needed to include an updated intel driver/sourcecode/or something to work properly with newer intel gpus and their drivers.

if indeed this issue is plex specific, it would have to be in the transcoder, and I would expect they are not working to fix the old/current transcoder, when they are working to get the new one working.

also, there is no such thing as ‘fixed for sure’ and ‘plex’ in the same sentence.

so, take that for whatever its worth.

Switched to a real pc with h370 MoBo and i5 8400…
Same problem.

What the…

Plex for Android (TV)

I used to install PMS on my computer (cpu 4790k + NVIDIA 1070ti), but I tried all the ways to use Nvidia GPU to Accelerate the transcoding of 4K HEVC 10bit files. It‘s failed. Now I’ve moved the PMS to my NUC (nuc 8i7hvk), and I hope I can use its HD630 to active HW Acceleration, but it still failed. I read the official documentation that HD 630 supports encode/decode for 4K hevc 10bit, but I don’t understand why my PMS didn’t use it.

I wanna know, can PMS HW Acceleration work with a old version cpu+new nvidia gpu or a newer intel cpu(with hd630 or newer) to handle the 4k HEVC 10bit vedio?

From the Intel Quick Sync WIKI:

Version 3 (Haswell)

The Haswell microarchitecture implementation is focused on quality, with speed about the same as before (for any given clip length vs. encoding length).[ citation needed ]

This generation of Quick Sync supports the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, VC-1 and H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2 video standards.[1]

Version 4 (Broadwell)

The Broadwell microarchitecture adds VP8 hardware decoding[10] support. Also, it has two independent bit stream decoder (BSD) rings to process video commands on GT3 GPUs; this allows one BSD ring to process decoding and the other BSD ring to process encoding at the same time.[11]

Version 5 (Skylake)

The Skylake microarchitecture adds a full fixed-function H.265/HEVC main/8-bit encoding and decoding acceleration, hybrid and partial HEVC main10/10-bit decoding acceleration, JPEG encoding acceleration for resolutions up to 16,000×16,000 pixels, and partial VP9 encoding and decoding acceleration.[12]

Version 6 (Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake, Whiskey Lake)

The Kaby Lake and Coffee Lake microarchitecture adds full fixed-function H.265/HEVC Main10/10-bit encoding and decoding acceleration and full fixed-function VP9 8-bit and 10-bit decoding acceleration and 8-bit encoding acceleration.[13][14]

Version 7 (Ice Lake)

The Ice Lake (microarchitecture) adds VP9 4:4:4 decoding, VP9 encoding (up to 10-bit and 4:4:4), HEVC 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 decoding and encoding,[15] HDR10 Tone Mapping[16] and Open Source Media Shaders.[17]

yes I know it,that’s why I use the nuc8i7hvk,but it still not work.

You don’t mention which OS, either way to work with the new drivers in Windows or Linux you need to follow:

I use the windows 10 pro for workstation

It is working perfectly <3333

Transcoding now is blocks as heck Using QSV at anything less than 8Mbps 1080p! It’s not even bearable, compared to software. What’s going on?
