2 Homes, 2 Plex Servers, shared PlexPass?

I have a feeling the answer is no, but I wanted to share what I’m trying to achieve and see if there are any smart cookies that know the best solution.

In home #1, I am running a Plex Server on my Nvidia Shield using email#1@example.com with a Plex pass.

In home #2, I am running a Plex Server on a Raspberry Pi, using email#2@example.com (this email does not have Plex pass).

Home #1 is my home. Home #2 is my grandparents who needs a way to listen to their old music and shows not available on streaming services.

Now I read somewhere that you can have multiple servers under the same Plex account. Is this possible with my setup, or do both Plex servers need to be under the same household ip address?

I want to avoid opening up ports in my home #1 network for security reasons. I prefer having both servers isolated with local internet.

Hopefully I’m making sense here.

Do I need to purchase a 2nd Plex pass for email #2, or is there another way?

Thanks!

Plex would obviously appreciate if you buy a 2nd Plex Pass as you expand your use case… but you can already run multiple servers under the same account.

Keep in mind NOT to enable https://support.plex.tv/articles/sync-watch-state-and-ratings/ on either side, because you don’t want your GP’s watch activity to “pollute” your own watched status.
(Only of importance IF you both happen to have some of the same movies or series.)

So how would I be able to achieve that?

Login to server #1 in house #1, and server #2 in house #2, using my email address (which has PlexPass), then add a user for my grandparents on server #2?

Does that sound like the correct way to do it (besides paying for a 2nd PlexPass subscription)?

Would this configuration cause issues with sync watch history @OttoKerner ?

If your parents are supposed to be able to administrate their server, you both need to use the exact same user account.
Which is why you both should never enable Sync Watch staes, as advised above.

Side note: with a RasPi as server they won’t be able to reap the rewards of Sonic Analysis.

If you create a managed user on your account, ALL clients will now ask whether to log in as that user or the admin from then on. You can set each client to automatically log into a specific client, but it has to be done from each client individually. And they can sometimes forget this setting, requiring it to be set again.

Better to just have them log in as you/your admin account locally. With Sync turned off, the servers won’t communicate to eachother to “synchronize” what has been watched, so they will remain isolated. Your server will not need to open any ports, nor will theirs.
