Same PlexPass account for multiple Plex servers on the same LAN?

I’d like to add a Plex server to my Slackware box. Is a PlexPass lifetime account tied to a single server or are PlexPass features carried across all servers on the same LAN? I couldn’t find anything searching the forums.

Thanks

You can run multiple Plex servers claimed by the same account (Plex Pass or not). They do not have to be on the same LAN.

I do not believe there is a hard limit, but if there is, it is pretty high.

Many people run multiple servers. My main server is an Ubuntu system. I also run PMS on my Synology (which holds my media) as a backup in case the Ubuntu system goes belly up. I also occasionally run a server on my PC or Mac to experiment with new features.

No.

Remote users do not have an account on your servers. They have an account at plex.tv. When they login, they will see their own libraries (if they have a server) and the libraries that you, or anyone else, has shared with them.

You choose which libraries on which servers to share with each user. You can certainly choose to share all libraries from all servers with all users. Alternately, you can choose which specific libraries on which specific servers to share with each user.

You’ll see it when you start sharing. It is covered in Plex DocsRemote Access and Granting Library Access. Also read the section on Plex Home.

FWIW, one thing I’ve found helpful is to have a second plex.tv account, tied to a free e-mail at Google/Yahoo/etc. It doesn’t have a Plex Pass or own any servers. I use it as a test account. It lets me mirror what my friends/family see when I share libraries with them - the sign up process, accepting an invite, etc.

Would this configuration need a different port on one of the servers?

Not on the servers themselves but you’ll need a different public port pointing to each server in your router’s manual port forward

e.g.

  • public port 32800 points to server A on internal port 32400
  • public port 32801 points to server B on internal port 32400
  • public port 32802 points to server C on internal port 32400
