2 Plex accounts - One device (ie, Xbox) but seperate users?

This makes for an interesting question.

  1. We have a lifetime plex license and a server setup with users.
  2. A friend has now crossed over to the dark side and got a lifetime license as well so they can setup their own server of content.

We’ve always accessed our account when visiting to watch content, so our account is logged into their Plex app on their Xbox One. However, now they want to be able to access their account/content, without having to log out back and forth to also access our server when one of us is visiting there. However…our content has to be separate from there’s…so can’t have one user seeing content of both mixed together as then they might be tapping into our upload bandwidth instead of their own content, without realizing it.

So is there a way to have both accounts readily accessible at the same time, but a separate user login for each library/server?

I hope I explained that right…

You could use regular sharing, setting each other up as a Friend (not Home User) on the other’s server. https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/users-sharing

You control which of your libraries show up on their account, and visa-versa.

Any library you share with them appears as a separate library on their clients. The movies/shows/etc are not mixed together into one large library.

If you are really worried about accidentally streaming from the other server, then do not pin the shared libraries to your home screen. That way you have to scroll and select “More” to see the shared libraries.

See Remote Access and User Sharing for additional details.
