2 Questions Regarding Moving Plex to a New Windows System

Note: In my case, I’m not actually moving to a new system, but I am reinstalling Windows 10 from scratch since the new October 2018 update is available so it’s effectively like moving to a new machine. Yes, I could simply upgrade, but I prefer clean installs.

The support article called “Move an Install to Another system” lists as the first step to disable the “Empty trash automatically after every scan” preference on the SOURCE server.

Question 1: Should I disable that option on the DESTINATION as well before I migrate the Plex Data to the destination?

In the final maintenance section at the end of that article, 4 steps are listed but it does not specify if these steps are to be done on the source or destination.

Question 2: Do those “Final Maintenance” steps apply to the destination server?

The reason for my confusion is that it sounds like the final maintenance steps should apply to the destination, but when it says to turn back on the “Empty trash automatically after every scan” preference, that seems a little odd because the earlier instructions only had you turn that off on the SOURCE and not the destination.

Thanks for your help!

Most important rule: While doing the copying, both servers must be not running!

Yes.

Yes, however: do only enable "Empty trash automatically after every scan” if your media files are on a local hard drive, directly within the Plex server machine.
Do not enable it if your media are on a NAS or an external hard drive.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the information. It might be worth updating the article to reflect that information to avoid confusion.
