Which of these would you recommend for running PMS and transcoding to max 2 local clients and max 3 remote clients? I have the Mac Mini already and it has worked well, but just have the itch to mix things up a bit. If it’s not really an “upgrade” to the Brix, I won’t bother.
You can check it out yourself! Plex “only” needs a lot of cpu power for transcoding. So the local clients shouldn’t be an issue as long as your network connection (including the r/w rates of your NAS) is fast enough and they don’t require transcoding.
Transcoding requires around 2000 Passmark Score Points per 1080p/10Mbit Stream. So just google for the processor and passmark and you get your answer whether or not it is an upgrade.
