I’ve started making a 2K (2560x1440) resolution movies from my 4K sources for streaming. The Playback UI shows the resolution of 1080p. Can Plex be updated to show 2K sources? Is there a file I can change to add additional resolutions.
Are there any devices using this resolution? I don’t see any reason using this exotic resolution.
Me either, unless I’m wearing my Gaming Hat, and if the vertical resolution is lower than 1080 - be happy Plex isn’t calling it 720.
“2K” isn’t what you want. If you do, you want 1080p - it has more vertical resolution.
“4K” is what you want. - it’s better than 1080 - and whatever 2K is supposed to be.
OK - we’re gonna call it:
QHD - and wonder what niche resolutions are going to do for me - other than confuse Plex.
Yea, Tom’s isn’t exactly the Library of Teckno-Congress, but I think we’ve seen enough here to move along… and unless you’re encoding, or seeing a whole lotta black bars everywhere - all you’re doing is destroying the aspect ratio, or cropping out giant hunks of image and you’ll find no love for that here among us ‘Purists’.

I’m resizing. Not cropping the image other than the black bars. Dong some reading and it seems that even 1080p could also be called a 2K resolution (1920 being close to 2000), then perhaps it’s better to just use the 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p, etc. So can 1440p be added to the definitions or is there a file I can modify to get that resolution to display in the UI?
You can’t. You’ll depend on Plex to add this to the underlying system.
