I have 3,800 old time radio mp3 files in one music library called Old Time Radio. Plex doesn’t recognize any of the files and shows the library as completely empty. The one possibly different thing about these files from normal music files is that they are 16Khz, 16 bit sample size, 24Kb bit rate. I haven’t been able to fine out anything about what range of mp3 files Plex can recognize. I don’t want Plex to do any matching of any sort, I just want the audio files viewable as the file name and then playable. Why wouldn’t Plex be able to see these files? There is metadata with some of the title info, though I would rather Plex not use that.
If they are MP3’s with metadata, then you might try going to settings>>agents>>Album Tab and drag the "Local Media Assets (Albums) to the top of the list. Refresh the folder and hopefully the file name is picked up. You may need to do a Plex Dance to refresh the metadata:
@JuiceWSA gave a nice explanation of the Dance:
The Plex Dance®:
- remove both movies (or TV shows, or music) from library
- update library
- empty trash
- clean bundles

- replace corrected movies into library
- update library
All Steps. In Order. No Shortcuts.
