3D Blu ray rip

Hello,
Before I begin I have researched this everywhere I can’t find anything useful on this,

I am new to this and when I use makeMKV to rip one of my 3d blurays I am presented with 2 36GB files, I checked the mvc on both and got 2 mkv files. What do I do with this, I was expecting SBS, How do I name this so that PLEX recognizes this, or am I suppose to transcode this for SBS?

Thank you!

MakeMKV doesn’t do conversion so it rips a 3D bluray straight from the disc with the MVC codec intact. Currently, there is not any Plex client I am aware of that can handle MVC as a codec.

To get SBS you will need to use a program that can read the original bluray or the file you made and transcode/convert the video from MVC to SBS. Plex itself cannot do the conversion from MVC to a SBS format.

As for naming, there is only one client that uses naming to influence playback and that is the Samsung client. It is the only client that has direct access to the TV API’s so it is the only client that can switch the TV into 3D mode for you. All other clients you must manually select the 3D mode through the TV options.

Thanks for clearing that up!

I was wondering if you knew the best way to rip a 3d blu-ray, I just want someway for plex (or any other) to play and if need be transcode it, as for the player I currently have an Xbox one but if need I also have a PHT hooked up with my TV through hdmi, I don’ really care for the auto 3d recognition on the tv as its just a click away, but having full quality 3d rip is important to me.

I’m not really interested in a iso copy as I think its would be too much of a drag than just putting the bluray disk.

BD3D2MK3D will do this… it’s a collection of scripts and tools
Only drawback is I can’t for the life of me get pmp to stream MVC with subs corrrectly… it’ll always split them but it will playback the 3D MVC file just fine

What I did is install OSMC w/ pleXBMC… I watch my 3D MVC content in OSMC and everything else in pleXBMC… it’s quite seamless especially if you use plex integrated skin like Amber

Going to try rasplex and openelec next to see how they fair but my guess it’ll be the same as I think it’s due to plex not supporting a 3D UI like Kodi/OSMC

I haven’t tried OpenPHT

MakeMKV only can rip 3D Blu-ray to 3D MVC MKV format. Plex and other many video players can’t handle MVC codec. I suggest SBS 3D as you want.
I prefer ByteCopy , which can rip 3D Blu-ray to 3D SBS MKV, 3D SBS MP4, 3D TB MKV. These 3D formats are supported by plex.
