Forgive me if this feature already exists and its just me that can't get it working.
I like to rip my BluRay and DVD libraries and have recently started ripping my 3D Movie collection to MKV using MakeMKV preserving the original MVC video stream.
This plays fine in 3D using Stereoscopic player on my Windows machine but it will not output in 3D on any of my client devices including Plex IOS clients and my PS3 (via DLNA)
Ideally I want to stream to my PS3.
I have read that 3D is supported although still reading through forum topics it would appear that this requires the content is re-encoded to either half or full SBS.
I would prefer not to have to alter my content and was wondering if MVC will be supported. Since this may be a licensed codec I would happily pay for a premium channel to get this functionality working.
So I researched this and it looks like PLEX actually will serve an MVC-3D MKV file if the client requests it.
Looks like most if not all client rendering devices do not support MVC over USB or DLNA maybe due to licensing.
The Dune 3DHD player looks like one device that may fit the bill.. until I have had chance to invest in one of these I won't know for sure but since others are reporting limited success with Samsung it would make sense.
At least this forum topic is the top hit in Google for this issue so maybe it will serve as a jumping off board for others
Anyone wanting 3D right now will need to convert their videos to some sort of Side-by-Side (e.g. Half-SBS / Full-SBS) - If you include these tags in the filename then the client should automatically place the TV in the correct 3D mode.
I've been looking for the same thing, a media center client that will play back lossless 3D (MVC / frame-packed / non-half content). I will probably pull the trigger on one of these soon:
Plex is being passed up. I was looking on Amazon today, and just about all of the new standalone streamers/players will do frampacked 3d MVC MKV. The devs have stated in the past that they don't think it's a priority, but then why are so many asking for it, and why are these standalones selling so well? I'm on the fence myself. I love Plex, but MVC 3D is the last thing I need.
Does anyone know a BluRay Player which accepts MVC Video (embeeded in MKV) via DLNA and displays it as HDMI Framepacked 3D?
My Panasonic Plasma doesn't support it and I'm not buying another TV (...at least until the new LG 55" 4K OLED TVs are at <3500€:D). But I do need a new BluRay Player and if someone knew one model to support that feature .... that would be awesome! And since BluRay Players need this decoder capability anyway... it would probably a small step. Although I've never read about it!
