3D Content - smooth playback on RPi2?

Hi All,

I'm looking into a new TV and am up in the air about 3D. The only content i may watch in 3D would be provided from my RPi2 running rasplex and if content plays smoothly on such a set-up, i'll spring the extra for a set capable of 3D.

So before i pull the trigger on a new TV, I'd really like to hear of some people's experiences with 3D content with a RPi2 and rasplex.

Many thanks,

Austin

I have successfully played some 3D movies with RasPlex, but this is entirely up to the TV set and how it allows you to manually choose a 3D mode.

RasPlex itself is completely unaware of any difference between 3D and 2D movies, just like the official "Plex Home Theater" client when running on a PC.

My viewing experience with these 3D movies played through RasPlex has been fine, even with the RPi1 model. (properly configured and modestly overclocked)

On the RPi2 I have no problems at all.

The only real problem would be if you have 3D movies encoded in formats that need transcoding by the PMS server.

Such transcoding could mess up the 3D format so that the TV set can't handle it properly, since the PMS server also pays no heed to 3D/2D differencies.

Note however that this issue is identical for all client programs, not just for RasPlex.
