I currently have several 3D films in my collection which I either don’t want to watch in 3D or play on a TV which doesn’t support 3D. Is it possible to please add the option to play 3D films in 2D?
Currently Kodi has the ability to do this but it would be great to do this within Plex so that I don’t have to switch Media Players.
i would like that too.

Hi Plex Team,
I’d like to have a feature for 2D viewing 3D films, and I want pay for it.
I have tons of 3d side by side or top bottom films files.
My friends don’t like 3d, but want to see the 3D films i have in 2D !
So I have to reencod or download a 2D version of all my 3D films.
There is no player that detects side by side or top bottom 3D image and proposes to play 2D version,
on all my devices (Apple TV, phones, tablets, …).
So please, develop that option on all devices.
It’s simple if there 2 images just show one of them, that’s all.
I will buy lifetime Plex if I have this 3D to 2D player !
Best regards
Basically, a cropping feature.
That’s it.
So simple to code, so great value for 3D lovers.
That simple feature doubles the value of a 3D file,
that becomes a 2D+3D file.
No more need to download file twice.
When you want to watch 2D version, you just switch viewing mode.
It’s not that simple.
There are the inferior top-bottom or side-by-side methods of storing the left and the right eye picture in one ‘full frame’.
Here, indeed only a cropping is necessary to get a 2D picture.
But there is also the Multi-View-Coding (used on 3D Blurays) which stores a full frame picture for one eye and then additionally stores the differences between left and right eye. Resulting in much better picture resolution than the above method.
And the method to get 2D pictures out of this datastream is completely different (but also relatively easy).
Oh, I know. That was just my dumbed down version of it.
