Hey guys, I am still a little confused
With the $4.99 one time activation fee I buy with my google play account; is that good for all my devices linked to the same play store account? ie: android phone and 2 android tablets?
I know I asked the following question before and some kind soul answered but I am not too clear.
Is signing in on your phone once the 4.99 one time activation fee is purchased linked to the email/password or the friendly name you give to the account?
In other words if my friendly name is jason 1 and I wind up purging that and creating jason 2 is jason 2 still linked to the 4.99 paid activation fee?
Lastly, what is the easiest way to delete a friendly name and create a new friendly name?
Can the library settings be saved beforehand and then imported?
Thanks guys, alot !!!
Yes. The activation purchase is tied to your Google Play account. That Google Play account that made the purchase needs to be signed into Google Play store on whatever device you choose to use. It has nothing to do with your Plex account signed into the app…
If you want to change your username just change it on your account page https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account. There is no need to delete your Plex account just to make a new username
Does that allow you to start fresh?
I’m not sure what you mean by “start fresh”. Your Plex Media Server and your account are two different things. Deleting your account won’t reset your server or solve any problems. If you want/need to reinstall your server then do that, or if you want to delete a library on the server, do that.

Big Wheel, I am new so excuse my newbieness.
I had set up an tv shows folder populating it with 124 episodes of the mod squad ( 1968 to 1973) The art work was from a show i did not recognize and I could not delete all 5 seasons…only 4 no matter what i did. I wound up deleting the tv shows folder and no matter what i did even recreating TV shows folder I could not import again hence the "starting fresh question.
I managed somehow to create a new friendly name while maintaining my original login credentials, that is the issue I was having
I guess i would need to know exactly how you have your TV library set up. If you want to remove a show from a library all you need to do it remove that folder that has the show file from the main TV folder it is in.
I just “ADD” the video files from it’s respective folder
I’d like to know this : I have 2 homes, can I have two servers under the same account so House 1 can stream to house 2 and vice versa or is it 1 server per account?
Regardless, would my $4.99 activation on my smartphone see both homes?
Can the app on my phone read 2 different servers? If so, would that be on two different accounts or the same?
I appreciate all the help as when I master this I will pay it forward
Again , Thanks !
Jeff
It can see as many servers as your account has access to. You can download the app install and see all this without buying it. It has a 1 minute time limit on playback until you buy the activation but you can test connecting to all your servers first.
My server issues are now MUCH better
However, on my android tablet (Linked to same play/gmail account) is connecting to server I still have the 1 minute limitation whereas on my smartphone all is good.
What can I do?
Thanks !
on the activation page, where it ask you to buy, at the bottom there should be a link to press if you already bought it.
It auto activated an hour later
I am getting the nag of this
One more question if I may:
I had no trouble adding my first library to TV SHOWS when I first added server.
Now I have a 12 season TV show in a folder on my desktop and it seems no matter what I do I cannot get PLEX to see it although it seems added correctly via TV SHOWS…EDIT then add folder
Thanks , ALOT !!!
You only add the root folder(s) not every individual show folder to the library in that screen.
make one folder called “TV” or whatever and in that folder put your actual show folders. when you put more shows in that TV folder Plex will see automatical them when you “scan for files”
Worked like a charm, thank you so very, very much.
Another question
If I buy the plex pass and wish to add a TV tuner, can that tuner be a QAM tuner which picks up my digital cable TV channels which are not encrypted, or does PLEX only work with an OTA tuner and antenna?
Again Thanks
The HDHR Prime is the only cable tuner that “officially” works. https://support.plex.tv/articles/225877427-supported-dvr-tuners-and-antennas/
there may be others that work but I can’t guarantee it.
So I can use a a signal coming from my cable provider and not an antenna?
Yeah. HDHR Prime works with cable cards. You need to get a cable card from your provider.
the prime works with cable cards which must be authorized/activated with your cable company.
unfortunately, many cable companies use additional encryption to prevent viewing even with a cablecard.
you can search the forum for more details and history https://forums.plex.tv/search?q=prime%20cablecard
i and many others use the hdhr quattro for regular OTA (antenna) local tv shows, works well for me. I have an antenna in my attic that gives me good solid signal for my area.
your signal will of course be entirely dependent on your location, quality/direction of your antenna, and your local stations.

I use a ceton infiniti pcie with cable card…optimum here in ny does not encrypt basic cable channels like cbs nbc and abc but that device sits in a separate pc not my powerhouse which houses the plex server
no idea if that card will work with plex, but you could try installing plex server on that PC and see.
since you can have as many servers as you want, you could use that server to record/dvr shows, save them to a nas or shared drive, then use the main plex server to actually watch.
of course your main plex server won’t be able to use live tv or the dvr functionality (you would need to switch over to the dvr server to do that).
alternatively, again assuming that card will work with plex, you could move the tuner card to the main plex server pc and that would keep it simple with a single server both dvr/live tv, and your other ripped content.
