Funny enough I have the same problem (and same configuration). The 40 sec frustrated me, but I thought it was just a Plex issue. PMS was first installed on my Synology 216J. I shared the content with a friend over the internet, but he couldn’t play movies. He got a message like not enough processingpower to transcode this file. When I moved PMS to my Nvidia Shield tv he had no problems anymore and everything worked fine for me exept the 40sec delay, when starting a file.I am going to test this SMB solution
Actually it was a 52sec delay. Changing SMB to 3 reduced it to around 33sec and removing the mark at “Enable Opportunistic Locking” it reduced start time to around 3 seconds,so problem (of which I had no clue that there was a fix) was solved :-), Thx
Most of what I describe above is when first playing the file. It also doesn’t appear to depend on the size of the file. I’ve seen packet captures which showed no data transferred between the NAS and the Shield during this time.
Glad you got this corrected.
I also had this same setup and same problems. I have a ds1513+ and the only solution I’ve found to fix the problem so far is when I click play on a file I also need to hit the fast forward button and it’ll play pretty much instantly. This is not ideal because it sometimes causes me to need to hit the rewind button soon after to make sure I’m not missing anything.
@johngcp: have you updated the ds1513+ and changed the SMB settings?
yep, and I’ve even done the removing of the enable opportunistic locking recently so hopefully that will fix it.
Good luck
